Forumite Points: 0I will try and explain, I am not sure about rules of YouTube content.
I have been sorting through my (late) Dads Video Cassette Tape. He was mad about music/technology from the 60s I believe he was a member of Jason Cord and the first chapter. He was said to be the manager of in for a penny (became Slade)
Anyhow back to it, on the video is a track from his friend Tommy Burton, this track is already on YouTube
Can I upload the copy I have, do I need permissions etc, whatever I don’t know.
The recording on YouTube (time place) is different to the recording I have.
May 5, 2017 at 8:24 am #6996As long as you don’t make it public I can’t see it being an issue.
You can also upload videos to goole photos, that is probably the place where Google would want you to put personal stuff. But as long as you don’t make the yt video public it should be fine.
But I’d keep a back up or two in in separate hdds just incase. Or upload one copy to Mega.com you get 50fb free, also one to GDrive (which is where your Gphoto video would live).
Given they are old vcr recordings, you won’t need to create huge files, the pictures will be bad anyhow, so you’ll just need the bit rate high enough to retreat the original video audio, so your files should be small. Both Google drive and Mega should be fine.
I’d use Mega as an emergency back up only.
You also have Microsoft sky drive. Nether MS or Google are going anywhere anytime soon, and if they are you’ll get plenty of notice. Not to sure about mega, and it’s shady past. (kim dotcom)

I was thinking more for the world (public) to see another version.
So I think your saying I would need permissions to go public, best forget it then
I have it on dropbox and backups galore.May 5, 2017 at 9:50 am #6998Drop a note to the Brum Music Archive, give them some background on the tape and ask them what would be the best way of handling it to make it more available to the general public. They may like a copy for their archives, and then all nasty copyright issues are their headache!
May 5, 2017 at 11:18 am #6999You don’t need permission to publish it on yt, and yt won’t do anything unless someone makes a copy right claim on the video or the song in the video.
In that case you won’t get in financial trouble, the video will just be taken down by yt untill you either challenge the takedown or admit defeat and leave it be.
Eds idea seems Intresting. And if your just doing it out of public intrest, I’d go down that route. You’d know you don’t your bit for humanity, and then keep a copy for your own private entertainment in one of the services I named above.
May 5, 2017 at 8:13 pm #7010Just post it up and if anyone complains then take take it down or youtube will.
I have a friend who sells load of copyright stuff on redbubble – not rip-off but old TV logos etc – and occasionally they take stuff down but most of it they don’t care as it is just free advertising for them.

I have sent a message to Brum Music Archive, but maybe I should have just posted it on YouTube
May 5, 2017 at 8:25 pm #7012Like Sped said, just post it on youtube. The worst that can happen is it gets taken down.

Should I put this
I have been sorting through my (late) Dad’s (Roy “Dixie”) Video Cassette Tape.
He was mad about music/technology from the 60s.
On the video is a track from his friend Tommy Burton – I Wanna Be Like you.
I am not sure if I offend anyone or any copy rights, but wanted to share it with the public.
May 5, 2017 at 10:47 pm #7016I’ve had a couple of videos using 50s music muted on YT because WB or Sony et al objected. I challenged both times and, whilst it took a couple of months, on both occasions YT restored the audio (at least in the UK). I used the shorter copyright expiry in the UK as part of my challenge.
Yep, just checked, and audio is still there.
Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.

Forumite Points: 0May 6, 2017 at 9:26 am #7026You could enter the start of the Black and White rag into the Weekly Joke topic!! What a great entertainer, John. If you’ve got more, go for it. :good:
I let YT cycle through a few more, that’s how I came across the B+W Rag. It seems someone called Pat Holly was a fan too.:) It’s amazing that the BBC could keep his material from him!!

Only got that one of Tommy’s
Their is a comment “Great Work” waiting to be approved from Rewind Remix, but YT have flagged it as spam?
I found it strange how he didn’t have much of his work.
