The next game will be tougher than we think. If we get through against Columbia, I believe we can beat Sweden.
The only part I don’t like is that miserable dirge of an Anthem. Why can’t we have a proper ENGLISH anthem?
Come on, England!

I'm out.July 3, 2018 at 7:30 pm #22602Me and Doris was just saying the anthem should me Rule Britania.
Or my fav, I thou to thee my country. (passed out to it). But it woundnt really work as a NA, as it takes a while to get going. Bit boy does it stir some passion. Even for me who is hardly nationalistic.
Better version
July 3, 2018 at 9:04 pm #22606I just had a search, it was a draw I think, well they lost there touch for 6
Maybe they’re playing extra time? or isit penalties?
Cheers
JohnJuly 3, 2018 at 9:43 pm #22608“lost their touch for 6” I’ve never heard that saying before, what does it mean?
I missed the second half. It was extra time, (30 mins) , now it’s on pens.
July 3, 2018 at 10:03 pm #22609I may have to re think my views on the lord almighty. As I just seen a miracle.
July 3, 2018 at 10:05 pm #22610you and me both mate…..
July 3, 2018 at 10:07 pm #22611did they not score 6 the other day.
Lost the touch means crap compared to them scoring 6
Cheers
JohnJuly 3, 2018 at 10:19 pm #22614They did score 6, but they was a poor team. It should of been 10 tbh.
I get the lost your touch, I just never put the 6 with the other night, so I was lost. My fault.
July 3, 2018 at 10:32 pm #22616Well that was an incredible game. The Columbians might have won if they had concentrated on playing football and actually kicked the ball, instead of everyone in a red strip. I thought the Panamanians were bad, but this lot were more argumentative, more cheating and twice as dirty. I lost count of the number of yellow cards the absolutely useless referee dished out to them, but several Columbuggas already on yellows just continued serious fouling after being given a yellow. If the ref had taken control and sent just one off before half time, that would have stopped it. Maybe the Columbuggas had been watching Neymar perform his cheating tricks, they fell over in “pain” whenever an England player looked at them sideways. Why the player who nutted Jordan Henderson in the head and jaw was not sent down the tunnel, I will never know. The daft thing is, when they played serious football, they were better than England. Most of the time, what they played was not football.
I cannot give a Best England Player award, because every one was a hero. JH was a rock, so was Kyle Walker. Trippier never stopped running, making great crosses and passes. Harry Kane stood more unfair, illegal, unseen punishment than any player should have to put up with, and just got up again. Ashley Young was just about crippled when he came off, gave everything, but the only reason I could see for picking him, was for his free kicks and slowing down the game. And his free kicks were not good enough. Sterling is just not doing it like he does for Man City, I don’t know why. Lingard was good, came close. Stones just gets better, but needs to take the hassle like his captain does. Maguire was solid with the others in the back 3. Pickford was a hero saving the penalty, almost got to another. Dier was cool when he stepped up to the spot.
All in all, they may not win the WC, but they are a band of brothers and they fight for each other, it shows on the pitch.
We still need a goalscorer, somebody who can do the business in open play. But I think we can beat Sweden, get behind their back line which is a bit ponderous. Maybe bring back Trent Alexander-Arnold, for his pace and his passing.
After Sweden, who knows what could happen? We actually won a penalty shoot out!

I'm out.July 4, 2018 at 7:27 am #22627I didn’t think much of Sweden, but anything can happen! If they get through that I’ve just realised I’ll be on a train from Graz to Vienna next Wednesday. Gets in at 20:20 and I’m pretty sure the Greek restaurant 10 mins walk away will have the match on. I’ll be asking them on Monday! Should be OK for the second half.
July 4, 2018 at 9:22 am #22634Phew…..no easy rides but for finishing 2nd in the group we are now grouped with Croatia,Russia and Sweden, Belgium who won the group have Uraguay France and Brazil. This has really worked out for us – winning may be a step to far (who knows) but an amazing chance to get to the final. Best get the weekend beer in early I reckon – shelves could be empty.
July 4, 2018 at 8:11 pm #22648My senior Gdaughter had the effrontery to ask that I take her and BF to Mablethorpe at 2:30 on Saturday, from her home about 6 miles from us and another 8 miles from there. Gave me 30 minutes to get there and back. Sorry sweetheart, granddad is watching England-Sweden at 3pm and you will need an earlier pickup, 1:30. ‘Yes GD, we are going to watch the match on a big screen in Maybo (local slang for “Mablethorpe”) ‘
I explained that (a) due to chemo/immune system issues, I cannot be among large crowds – (b) leaving home at 2:30 will not get you very near the screen, there will be huge numbers, from all over East Lindsey – (c) It’s still a 1:30 pickup: take it or leave it. Stern, strict granddad, am I cruel?
She took the 1:30 deal. Expecting to see her on Look North BBC News later that day. And hear her: she is a large, beautiful, loud blonde without any tact whatsoever. I have never known her to be interested in football before, but I have converted BF into a Forest fan. Bonus. ???

Come on, England!

July 5, 2018 at 10:29 pm #22687Love the lad, he thinks he has already convinced dad he can look after his dd when he takes her down to Peterborough to live together. Has realised how much she loves granddad and knows he has to impress him. I was being a bit ‘economical with the truth’ : his family live in Grantham and they are all Forest supporters: nearest club down the A52, from the East, straight into the City Ground over the Lady Bay Bridge*. I gave them some good (free) side street parking, all Forest houses who watch out for cars with Forest stickers.
He’s a nice lad actually and totally devoted to our gd. FB lovey-dovey photos all the time. Sickening, really.? ? ?

You will see from the map that there is another Footy place over the Trent, on the Mucky Bank Black & White side. We get their balls this side of the Trent due to their “up and under” way of playing, then we get them by the balls when we play them. They once had Tommy Lawton, old England player, in the days when smashing the goalie into the net with the ball in his hands, was a recognised goal. They still play like that, football from the Thirties.

I'm out.July 6, 2018 at 12:44 am #22696Just a little joke bob.
Man 2vdays with no footy had seemed long. Can’t wait till tomorrow and sat. Plus silverstone on Sunday.
July 6, 2018 at 10:19 am #22705Yes been boring with no footy, but recording 2 games today, may not see them live as looking at a flat in Louth and some shopping to do. Uruguay will go through but Brazil for me will beat Belgium maybe 2 or 3-1. They are the WC winners, they have cured the defensive problems and are on their way. England-Brazil Final? dafter things have happened at this WC.
Knew it was just a joke, I’m not that sensitive! ? Looks like I got a half-decent Gson IL to come though. If she doesn’t put him in the loony bin first. She is high maintenance and excitable, if beautiful and super-confident. He is so laid back, he is almost horizontal. Time will tell.

I'm out.July 6, 2018 at 5:04 pm #22719Job done, France. Second goal looked lucky until SloMo proved that the spin and bend that Griezeman put on that half-pace shot, spun it away from the goalie, who was expecting to pat it down and keep it. It bent away from his gloves and up into the net. Very, very intelligent player, is Griezeman.
France were better in all departments, including goalkeeper. Lloris made a brilliant double save and made certain to be in position if a shot was close. Uruguay just pumped balls into the box, Suarez played out of the game completely. Never seen him so anonymous, running around desperately by the end. Ah well, no one was bitten, but at one goal down the Uruguayans went all Colombian and began petty fouls and arguing against decisions. Does not work with this ref, who has been the referee of the tournament for me. If he had ref’d the England-Colombia game, we might have had more penalties. At 2-0 they realised that they had to keep playing football, but the French defence was solid. France will give Brazil a good game: if the Belgian team get extremely good or lucky they will be beaten by France.

I'm out.July 6, 2018 at 6:50 pm #22722Missed it, working ☹ but good to earn some ?
Drinking the Leffe that’s been in the beer fridge for a week and boy do I need this ❄?? hope it doesn’t jinx the Belgians. If they can get a quick goal I think Brazil’s temperament will go all South American. They’re cocky when they’re ahead but can’t quite seem to believe it when they’re not.
My ? says Belgium, my ?say Brazil.

July 6, 2018 at 7:04 pm #22724That’s what happens when you can only communicate with your 19 yo daughter via Whatsapp ?
I’ve “spoken” to her more when she’s 220 miles away at Uni in Bangor than when she’s 2′ away in the house.
