I don’t want to draw this out, but Forumite will shortly, as did MM, have a reputation for going off topic – my answer to that is quite simple – if it’s of no interest to me, it might be to others and I always thought that freedom of speech was allowed (within legal limits).
I didn’t think my post was in any way off topic as the chances of violence in the WC, Russia is very high especially as some Russian fans seem to have their own ‘military style’ brigades and our fans’ reputation is hardly angelic in many instances.
Hence why I couldn’t see the reason for the posted comment.

May 19, 2018 at 6:18 pm #20908I have to agree, I’d follow football almost anywhere, Russia isn’t one of them. Nothing against the nation, somewhere I’d love to explore. But I wouldn’t be going as a footy fan.
June 14, 2018 at 3:29 pm #21871So, it all starts in 1/2 an hour. Please just keep all the related posts to the 2018 world cup in this thread. Should make an interesting read 2022 🙂
I have stuck it to the front so it’s easy to find.

June 14, 2018 at 3:48 pm #21874Kick Off 4pm. Watching on Desktop in HD, as SWMBO hates me getting loud. For something different, I will be supporting a team of Muslims, not just one very skillful Egyptian who plays for some club in the North West, whose name I temporarily forget. ??
EDIT: don’t know which country has the worst Human Rights record. Probably Russia.

June 14, 2018 at 4:57 pm #21878Have to apologise to Russia (never in my wildest dreams thought I’d say that!)
On first half evidence, much the better team: good player in a fast, direct team and all seem to have been coached to know each other well. They are a team. Saudis seem like a collection of individually talented, technical players, too much indirect, fancy footwork, too much passing back. Like the last 3 England WC teams. The second Russian goal was a lovely move: all about one midfield attacker who chased down the ball, made a perfect pass to a forward. who made the same to another, who beat 3 players in one move and shot into the top of the net. Good football. This Russian team is underrated.

I'm out.June 14, 2018 at 6:25 pm #21880Saudi Arabia were poor, made the Russians look good I think, however the Russians took their chances and had a crack at goal whenever they got near enough. They pressed the Saudis all the time, in their faces, never giving them a minute to play their slow, studied game. The Saudis must rely on midfield a lot in their own League, because that’s where they played for most of the game. When not passing back and playing their own half, that is. They will not go far.
Have to see the Russians against a better team, but I can’t see many teams will have a 5-0 starting game. Make me wrong, England!

I'm out.June 15, 2018 at 6:07 am #21899It is ramadam and I know loads that are fasting and feeling woozy this month so if the saudi team were all doing the same I reckon they was easy pickings. Russia have lost there last 5 or 9 matches so I can see that being the best there going to get and all down hill from here on.

June 15, 2018 at 1:37 pm #21909Their is a loop hole for Ramadan, if your traveling you can eat. I’m sure that clause was ment for away footy matches. Allah could see this far ahead.
I only know this a this was brought up with Salah on the run up to the final.
June 15, 2018 at 2:02 pm #21910Not impressed with Uruguay from first half. Lee, I’m fairly sure that some high rank Saudi Mullah would have asked for special dispensation for their players. Certainly does not appear to have affected the Egyptians, who are full of running first half. Might be a few Alexandrian Orthodox Christians in the team, though. Oldest form of established Christianity, created in Ethiopia.
National pride beginning to overrule orthodox faith in all 3 main religions? Already happened in mostly-secular Britain, of course.

I'm out.June 15, 2018 at 2:09 pm #21911As they are ‘travelling’ the Koran says that Muslims should adopt local customs and merge with the populace. i.e. absolutely no requirement to fast.
I used to stay at the Hilton in Istanbul which has/had bars, nightclub and a casino. During Ramadan all of these would be chock-block full of ‘travelling ‘ Saudies. and Kuwaities none of whom would be in dish-dashes, and many would be three sheets to the wind with booze.
June 15, 2018 at 2:27 pm #21916This is the typical 1st game performance of not wanting to lose their first game. Well see alot more of these over the first week of games.
Hopefully Spain Portugal will be more intense.
June 15, 2018 at 3:06 pm #21918Mo was obviously heartbroken on the bench Steve, send him a Get Well card! Egypt were good technically, some good players, let down by not enough bodies upfront when they very occasionally broke from way back. Goalkeeper was magnificent, felt sorry for the guy. Thought Suarez was going to bite the legs of the guy who committed the Yellow card foul on him.

I'm out.June 15, 2018 at 3:27 pm #21920They do make the players fast but the individual can choose and many do going by what has been said. Any how it’s over with today.

June 15, 2018 at 4:36 pm #21924Given this was always going to be Egypts hardest game, it seems the ‘mo will be playing’ was just mind games.
Though I can’t help but think, it would of been better played against Saudi.
I thought come 35mins in the Egyptians looks spent. Their organisation almost got them through. I lt looks like they have don’t next to zero offensive practice, so I can’t see them scoring any if they don’t get mo on.
I don’t really want him coming on tbh, one hit and he could be out till Xmas. Very selfish of me, as I do what him to have his WC, but at the end of the day, I’d rather Liverpool do well.
This next game is slightly better, but I need to go out now if I want to catch the Spain Portugal game.
June 15, 2018 at 5:30 pm #21930P.S I am recording the entire world cup to put away for years to come. Yes, I know there on catch-up but I do like saving recordings of all sorts of stuff. If any one misses a match and want’s a copy PM me. Not sure how TVHEADEND is going to cope with extra time and so on but i’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it. 🙂

June 15, 2018 at 5:42 pm #21932Put me down for one copy of Kane lifting the trophy.
June 15, 2018 at 9:50 pm #21942Too heavy for Kane Steve, he would have to get Phil Jones to do it.?
Now, what a helluva game was Spain v. Portugal! First half Spain hardly in it but Portugal did not take enough advantage, then the human torpedo that is Diego Costa went through them. At Spain 3-2 up it looked over for the Portuguese, with Ronaldo looking invisible except when moaning about anything and everything. Up he steps with an incredible free kick that De Gea did not see until he turned to look at what everyone else had already noticed. Same De Gea who let the ball slip through his fingers for DC’s goal. If he has a drop in confidence, the Manc’s “Best Goalkeeper in the world” might be moved on by Mourinho next season. If The Special One is still there himself by then, that is.
It’s getting better…

I'm out.June 15, 2018 at 9:56 pm #21943Nice game. I love Costas first goal. Though there wasn’t a bad one. Not a bad finish form the CB Nacho too lol.
I thought iniesta really slowed Spain down at times, shown his age. But still some forward balls from him.
Portugal looked poor going forward, old Ronny was quite annoyed a few times. For an old chap he isn’t half bad. (still don’t like him). But with out him, Portugal would have nothing to offer.
What about that loser of a keeper ?
June 16, 2018 at 8:20 am #21954Well he his not has bad as that Liverpool keeper a few weeks back lol. Now that was a joke. I mention to Bob I would keep my my mouth shut about that appalling & laughable game but hey ho 🙂
