      It appears that the 4.1 wordpress update can on some sites cause a 401 error when accessing different pages on your site. It happened here and with a little investigation it turned out that the update had overwriten my htaccess file and left it virtualy blank. These problem will emerge more often if you are using permalinks. The fix is simple, rebuild you htaccess file.

        Have you thought of moving everything out of .htaccess?
