Hi Dave, I tried the above – Recovery/Reset procedure, but at the end it stated it encountered a problem resetting windows, so nothing was changed, and the .dll issue is still there.
I suppose only alternative is reformat my hard drive and re-install Windows 10?
February 16, 2017 at 4:42 pm #3914Your OS is severely corrupted. Try Grahams tip, but it COULD instead be your hdd that is the cause in which case a full reformat is required. (I’d look at SMART too).
February 16, 2017 at 6:56 pm #3915I give up. ! More problems. I changed from an AMD to Nvidia graphics card about 2 weeks ago. Was reading up on a program called Display Driver Uninstaller so thought I would run that to ensure all amd drivers cleared out and re-install nvidia afresh. Ran DDU as instructed, via safe mode, restarted pc, and now my nvidia driver install keeps failing – “could not create folder c:\temp\nvidia\nvdisplaycontainerinstallerTemp”. The install bar gets about 1/10 of the way along and the message pops up and then shortly after I get the failed isntallation scren. Tried different drivers too, same issue. Tried a workaround ref the temp folder prob – by editing variables TEMP and TMP to c:\temp – but still didnt work.
Getting fed up with this now, 😥 – reformat and reinstall on the way I think!

February 16, 2017 at 7:42 pm #3919This is starting to point to the HDD in some way. The issues with scannow stopping and being unable to create anything in temp could be down to file permissions.
Or of course they could be a failing hard disk. That’s easy to check, preferably with the disk manufacturers own diagnostics but a scandisk at the very least.
If it’s file permissions I’ve seen that happen before. Never did get to the bottom of it and a reformat and reinstall is the quickest way to get back to a working system.
February 17, 2017 at 2:49 pm #3975You do not have a dual boot do you? Dual boot is a well known cause of severe OS corruption. (Both Win10 and Win7 each think that only THEY own the full disk space)
February 21, 2017 at 7:22 pm #4239Hi,
Re-installed Win 10. Everything seems to be running fine now. The only problem is, with a new install, is going through Win 10 and doing all the tweaks etc to get it how I like it, and then downloading and reinstalling all the games, mods, reshade/sweetfx, saves etc – Great fun!
Thanks for all the advice, and perhaps its better doing a fresh new install after all, as I did update from Vista to Win 10, so at least I know its a brand new Win 10 installation.
