It looks as though Donald Trump will by next January become ex-POTUS Trump. Only a miracle and some extremely expensive lawyers can rescue the election for him.
Already the Republican Grandees are distancing themselves from Trump’s wild and worrying allegations of electoral malfeasance that are beginning to sound like a drum-beat for Civil War and a call to arms for the Proud Boys.
Trump has upset far too many important people during his time at the White House. Methinks allegations of tax evasion and collusion with the Russians will start to emerge in the New Year. Although the outgoing President can issue a pardon, I do not think that he can pardon himself.
Meanwhile Bojo has some Democrat crow to eat and hard-line Brexiters are going to have to backtrack with respect to Ireland if they want to keep the US on-side. The Irish border always was a Brexit problem area, and now it looks like becoming a major stumbling block.
Interesting political times!
November 6, 2020 at 7:55 pm #63224I honestly think Trump is insane.
The shite he’s been spouting is unbelievable.
His ‘supporters’ turning up armed outside the places where they are counting the votes is another level of lunacy. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they were hired thugs.
November 6, 2020 at 8:29 pm #63226It was noticeable that Pence was missing from last night’s tirade. He seemed to be rambling, repeating himself, almost as if his speech writer had re-written the speech four or five times, but hadn’t removed the initial musings.
The Republicans are going to try and re-run the post election votes in Georgia – that’s likely to fail on two counts ( pun intended ) there is no basis to warrant doing it and the numbers will be irrelevant to the final outcome. Pennsylvania is just going to be strung out over the next few days/weeks because of the intricacies of detailing and identifying/ratifying some of the non-standard voting papers, but again, the numbers don’t indicate an alternative outcome.
Biden is making a speech tonight and if he doesn’t claim victory, he’ll likely tell everyone to stay calm and wait the official outcome. He’s in a good place and could score some serious points with the electorate by preaching common sense instead of rabble-rousing!!
With Trump, I honestly expect a ‘medical’ diagnosis around March – just in time to avoid court appearances for tax or corruption charges.
The Republicans are going to need to re-invent themselves, post-Trump, in the same way that New Labour did in the 90’s/00’s, similar to the way current Labour will need to distance themselves from the Corbyn era.

He obviously has ‘Long Covid brain fug’, the same ailment that afflicts Bojo in a more severe form.
November 7, 2020 at 10:29 am #63249It’s what he’ll get up to in the next 3 months that worries me. The litigation is just not going to get off the ground without evidence, no matter how much his disinformation campaign works or doesn’t. The courts may be biased politically but they have to see something to apply that bias to.
I don’t think it’s wearing well with the American public (hotheads excepted) which will spur the GOP into action eventually. They have had a good election, President excepted, and mid terms are not that far away. There are a few reruns going to happen in January. If Trump’s actions continue the shift to Blue they could be in trouble there too.
I think that after the weekend there will be trips made down Pennsylvania Avenue to quieten Trump and his spawn, or make it clear they are own their own. But who knows? This may be setting up the first female President in 4 years time, Ivanka Trump vs Kamala Harris.
November 7, 2020 at 10:58 am #63251When the Murkydogs abandon you then you know that your political ship is sinking fast.
The Murkydog empire of Fox News etc are now counselling Trump to step down in a statesman like manner as soon as Biden has officially passed the finishing post.
“Now losing, especially when you believe the process wasn’t fair, it’s a gut punch. And I’m not conceding anything tonight, by the way. But losing, if that’s what happens – it’s awful. But president Trump’s legacy will only become more significant if he focuses on moving the country forward.” — Laura Ingraham Fox News
Trump apparently angrily ranted to Murkydog after Fox News had announced that he had lost Arizona, and Fox News started to distance themselves from Trump shortly afterwards.
Trump’s case for ‘rigged’ ballot boxes has also been pretty well scuppered by his own Cyber Security Agency who have posted:
“Don’t fall for these efforts to confuse & undermine confidence in the election!” CISA Director Chris Krebs tweeted Friday.
I wonder if Murkydog will now join the Mail, and turn on BoJo.
November 7, 2020 at 12:38 pm #63258I really don’t see why the people of this country are still so interested in the US elections. In the immediate post war years we were hugely reliant on the US of A but now we are not. About the only thing we depend on now is their involvement with NATO and if the EU get their way it won’t exist for much longer anyway.
When was the last time you brought something with made in the USA stamped on it ? About the only things we export to the US are luxury cars and other things with a high “Britishness” value and they will keep buying those things whatever happens.
The so called richest country in the world is actually the one with the most massive debt and the interest on that is rising by the second. After a few more years of Democrat spending I can’t see them ever paying that back.
So whats the big fuss about US elections ?

Graham, from your analysis, you obviously have, like most of us, a world view – what happens over there now will affect that world view in future days/weeks/months/years. Personally, I like to have information about things, without necessarily involving myself in them. “Information is Power” is a much abused statement – that doesn’t mean it’s not true. :good:
November 7, 2020 at 1:00 pm #63264Im just happy it was so close. It should be a wake up call to many that trump isn’t as hated as the media make out.
The Uber left American media has bullied everyone in to silence when it come to trump and many other subjects. Ours media is following suit. They think they are liberal, bit to me they act more far right than free speech.
I don’t care about trump or Biden, however trump has highlighted massive issues in the US.
And he was a far lesser evil than Hillery.
November 7, 2020 at 1:02 pm #63266It was our biggest foreign trading partner, with Aircraft (Boeing/Military) and electronics (Apple etc) topping the list of imports, but it was our biggest export partner with medical goods & cars heading the list. However it is in services Amazon, Google Facebook etc. that the US has a real stranglehold.
However my biggest interest in the US is the damage their foreign policies cause to the world. The US has invaded over 50 countries since the end of World War 2 (all the way from lowly Granada up to Iraq, Korea and Vietnam), and politically interfered (Cuba, Chile, Columbia, Laos, Zaire, Falklands etc.) in far more. Although some of these were the work of rogue actors in the CIA or ill-advised Secretaries of State, the vast majority were at the behest of the US President, and that is why I take a keen interest in their election and why I prefer to see a mentally stable POTUS!
November 7, 2020 at 1:38 pm #63268Well you were out of luck there Ed, the choice was Trump or Biden 😆
November 7, 2020 at 2:54 pm #63271As the beetle said:- With Trump at 6’3″ vs Biden at 6’0″, it all comes down to the lesser of the two Weevils.
However given their ages the real choice will probably be in their nominated VPs. Harris vs the ultra religious Pence. Both are lawyers so two strikes against them, but I distrust the stability of any religious radical radical, so imo Kamala Harris will probably be a safer long term choice and she has at least lived outside the US.
Given BoJo’s previous history of racist comments he is going to have to be on his best behaviour from now on!
November 7, 2020 at 6:33 pm #63289Well, Biden it is now. ( Caveat – legal shenanigans aside!! )
It’ll be an interesting transition period – it’s a given Trump won’t behave himself, however much the GOP grandees instruct him. It will now be a personal battle of will between the eager incoming and the reluctant outgoing. As the saying goes, interesting times ahead!!! :yahoo:
