I must admit my normal unspoken reaction to those who claim an allergy to wifi was that it is all just hypochondriac BS. I guess I may have to think about eating crow. A new Google patent claims to be able to induce physiological effects by weak electromagnetic fields that are pulsed with certain frequencies near ½ Hz or 2.4 Hz, link. Maybe I’ll also have to start thinking about wearing a tin-foil hat!

August 14, 2017 at 12:22 pm #10970Oh good, something else to blame our tech & devices for. Steve, I think maybe the Greens and tree-huggers will be happier to read this.
I hope no one tells SWMBO about this, she already thinks I spend too much time on all devices.

I'm out.August 14, 2017 at 12:28 pm #10971It’s 2.4 Hz, WiFi is 2.4 Ghz
August 14, 2017 at 4:23 pm #10972True Dave but there are normally six or so channels which when added together might produce some lower frequency pulses. As shown here the wave form from wifi emitters may be actually quite complex rather than the two 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies implies.
I’m still inclined to think it is BS, but being able to subliminally influence people through their TV screens is typically Orwellian Google!

Oh, obviously I do not watch the ‘tight’ TV shows – in my innocence I thought you were referring to our Clown Prince!

August 17, 2017 at 7:06 pm #11024If this is true people would be dropping in the street.
I’ve just looked at the APs detected by one of my managed APs in a house on the busy main road through Kingswood (A420).
Today it’s detected 102 APs nearly half of which are the local buses, 5 are Audi’s, a Jag and a VW. There are 2 “ConnectedCAMxxxx” which I believe are Ciroen dashcams.24 are Apple product hotspots, 8 are Android and single Xperia (why are people wandering around with their phones as hotspots)?
So based on the traffic from probably only 50 metres of road, if WiFi is an allergenic I think we would know by now!
August 17, 2017 at 8:27 pm #11025The wiki is interesting – but still puts the syndrome in the bs zone.
I do not think that I’d totally rule out the possibility that there are electromagnetic influences on the brain – for example many birds use magnetic fields to navigate. I’d posit that humans too have that ability as I can irritate my wife by my ability to always instinctively know where ‘north’ is situated.. Funnily enough an ability that gets totally screwed in steel framed buildings and in the southern hemisphere!
As Rumsfeld said there are known unknowns and unknown unknowns!
August 18, 2017 at 2:29 pm #11033I can also tell North Ed, thought it was only me*! The other side of this, is that all Quartz watches, and some MP3 players, do not work for me. The watches all stop working within a day or two and the players have to be well away from my body, which is a nonsense. That is one reason why we bought a basic phone and used it for many years, before getting a smartphone. I was worried that the phone would follow the watch and the MP3 players, so would not lay out much for one. Fortunately I have no such effect upon my Wileyfox, even after uttering a few choice Anglo-Saxon phrases into its screen!
*Moss doesn’t grow on my North side though. ??

I'm out.August 18, 2017 at 4:16 pm #11035Bob, we obviously share some useful traits from our Neanderthal hunter ancestors. Probably a recessive gene as my elder son can get totally lost even when the route is signposted.
August 18, 2017 at 6:50 pm #11036Ed, one of my nephews (sadly deceased) a niece and two cousins shared the same (questionable) abilities. Might well be a Neanderthal trait, as the male relatives and myself share the ‘Hairy’ gene. Daren’t ask the niece about the hairy bit, she inherited many of her grandmother’s characteristics. ??
