The Beeb is showing some brilliant bus driving. Some idiot managed to get their car sideways on, on the wrong side of the road. The bus driver comes over a blind ridge, and is confronted with the car blocking his lane. Somehow he did a four-wheel drift around the car and no-one got hurt!.

The bus driver can clearly drive way better than the dumb arse in the other motor, looks like one of the MINI things.

Can’t be sure but it looks the bus driver does the old classic of steering into the slide and powering through. Fair play to him/her. Give them the keys to the idiots motor for probably saving them a lot of pain and possibly money.

It’s clear that the MINI driver has no clue how to drive in snow, I’d fine them £60. A week. For 30 years. I think that’s reasonable.

The snow here is frozen pretty good, there’s about a 1cm ‘crust’ that’s hard, I couldn’t punch through it with my right shoe but that’s my knackered hip side. Even using a crutch it’s pretty solid.

That’s going to catch lots of people out.

And more on the way apparently.

A lot of snow yesterday and through the night, all schools in the area decided by 7pm last night  that schools and colleges would not be opening.

Hospital appointment has again been pushed, which is a good job as my car and the neighbours is not getting out our road with out someone gritting our road, which isn’t going to happen, as the grit box that i park next to is empty.

One of the old dears will lilrlt report that to the council and they’ll re fill it some time in August.

Also my heating got turned on at 6am, (timer) normal weekly winter time, and not at 09:18, its still cold. I must be getting old.

Can hear the next neighbour (nice guy) out the front warming his car, i may film him, as he has the posh coupe bmw, iirc 640, a big power full rear wheel beast. our road to get out, is a 1 in 3 incline, with a very tight turn at the top. his car is longer than mine, and i know if i don’t nail the positioning i cant get round in one, so he will need to be more exact. I cant see it ending well, its tight turn between a House and a mountain retaining stone wall.

That’s starlings for you Boris! One finds a crumb and hundreds more see him, all dive down to fight over it. Happening on my backyard this weather when I put some food out on the bird table and in the feeders. They can’t get into the feeders, and only 2 at a time can get onto the table, but they try to get on in sixes or more. I just bang the window and they fly away, resident sparrows, blackbirds, thrushes, robins, finches etc, all just look up and carry on eating or waiting patiently in line.

Food is scarce. Watched one of “our” blackbirds this morning: he was diving his beak into the snow to get at grass. Worked his way down to where the slab path is buried and stabbed down with his beak. For a moment he froze, then flew on top of the bird table, shaking his aching head.

Please don’t put out white bread for birds btw: they cannot digest it. Wholemeal is good. To attract blackbirds, I put out the currants, raisins and sultanas from SWMBO’s cereal. One day she will discover why there are so few of them in her muesli….

Just went out to try and get to the GP’s surgery for an appointment. The front patio looked no different to yesterday. First clue was the slide/crunch as my foot went further forward than the rest of me, then went through the top layer of ice to yesterday’s snow. Second clue was the thick layer of ice on the car windows instead of snow.

I think it either drizzled overnight or the temperature eased enough for the top layer to melt and re-freeze. What looked like clear roads from the front room window, was in fact an ice rink.

Edit – looking at the forecast, today will be the last day of zero and below for us here. Tomorrow starts at 1 and rises to a balmy 7 or 8 on Sunday!! WooHoooooo!!!

I could do with seeing a doctor/pharmacist but there’s no way my car is getting out today. There is frozen snow around the 3 vehicles parked on the road, mine is in the middle.

Have to wait until tomorrow and see what it’s like.

Pm, imagine you scenario but on a 1:3 up hill. Mine isn’t going anywhere soon.

The neighbour spent 20 mins defrosting his car, was able to pull away, as rear wheels to begging with drive over the protected bit of road, but once his rear wheels touched the show and ice, the game was up. So he rolled it back to where it was.

I went the shop earlier, quite an adventure down the alleyway, but the main roads are clear. The issue for us, and many id imaging is the first and last, few hundred meters.

Though im hearing more and more of road closures in the area, so the council may be running low on grit and rationing/targeting more and more.

My girls even sick of the snow, she is off today, and i said at 9am you can play out later, she said no, she is currently playing with her mates online, road blox or mine craft .

My eldest went Egypt on Monday, so is in 30 degree heat (lucky sod) he is home late Monday, so hope it clears up for his flight home, and my drive to manc land.

I can hear traffic on the main road about 100-150m behind my car, not a lot but enough to hear from time to time.

As you said, it’s getting to the main road.

An Octavia Scout Paramedic vehicle is the only thing I’ve seen moving on the estate today.

More drifting here. Some bits of the road are clearly visible (but pure ice, look at the car) with drifts of up to 2 feet in places, like in front of that white car. You can see where he dug his garage door out. It’s weird how it’s blown about, behind our wall its blown a drift 18″ high up against all the old kitchen bits waiting to be picked up by the council.

It’s just started snowing again but its still that dry powdery stuff and still windy so I guess the drifting will continue.

Our drive is a foot plus deep, with drifts half-way up the car doors.

Seen 1 vehicle today – a meals on wheels Land Rover  – going uphill (just).

My daughter (only a mile away but 300 feet higher) says there are 5 foot berms down her lane – no chance to get out.

Normally we get hardly any snow here in Lydney, it is just the slope of our close + polished ice that stop us getting mobile

                            – but not this time – I have only opened the front door once and shut it immediately as a there is a 3 foot drift against it, threatening to blow/fall inside.

The snow is back with a vengeance. Most of the footprints made by people have dissapeared.

I was outside just now and saw a council 4 wheel drive double cab pickup heading my way. I then had a phone call, it was the council vehicle checking if I was OK!!! I’m guessing they are checking on Blue Badge holders in the area.

Not sure on the weather (apart from the news and on here) I haven’t opened my curtains yet, maybe tomorrow.

I have run out of milk, shame the council vehicle hasn’t been.

PM you have a better council than me and I have blue badges.

John, I was staggered. I thought they were probably checking the road conditions (they may well have been doing that as well).

I’m only about 2 miles or so from City Hall so that’s probably a factor, I can’t see them checking everyone in the City and County of Cardiff!

Well, I’ve cancelled a meeting in Plymouth on Monday, so I’m all set to spend the weekend at home now, rather than 7 hours on a train on Sunday ?

If anything we’ve had more today. Now the wind has died down it’s piling up – onto a layer of ice that’s now hidden. Opened the front door and it’s a consistent 4″ deep compared to an inch this morning.

Well I’m quite a bit further east than you Dave, we never had that much snow and it has been coming and going all week with only the side roads really affected. Today we had small size hail which was freezing to the car when I last looked Our daughter’s support worked cried off from visiting this morning as she does not have the use of her car due to the snow. I have not ventured out except to revise the temporary boiler drain installation to ensure the water has the fastest rout out into the drain. The old pipe has about 5 feet of ice blocking it now, so that has to go if the weather ever improves and I can set up a better fix. Much more of this and I will be going stir crazy.

Dave, your car looks to be in a similar state to mine, it had snow, then ice and now more snow on top. The side windows have about 2 cm of ice on them.

Even if it warms up a bit tomorrow it’s going to take an age to thaw it out.

The situation appears to change almost by the minute. Freezing rain/hail has now given way to a small blizzard that has recovered everything in a thin blanket of snow. I have no plans to go out tonight, but I am not too keen on the prospects for tomorrow either. As PM said thawing out the outside cars will be a real treat – NOT!
