Thanks Mark
They said it could be the oil and filter weren’t matching, it went in and had new oil & filter .
I tested it, and the problem has slowed down considerably, but not cured.
It’s booked in for Wed they are going to replace the sensor (oil filter I think) with a peugeot.
Some days it’s worse than others (since the oil change) but not as bad as it was.
I think it’s down to process of illumination, as it only started after I had the last oil & filter change
late April early May?.Or that may be a coincidense ?
Thanks Bob
It’s been back about the screech 3 times and it has never been sorted. At the moment it only happens a couple of times a day.
Cheers
JohnJuly 1, 2018 at 11:35 pm #22514Might be power steering pump. Check it with engine on, turn wheels lock-to-lock, hard over.

I'm out.July 2, 2018 at 7:46 am #22523Thanks I will try your suggestion Bob, what should I expect to find/hear (the same screech maybe?)
Cheers
JohnJuly 2, 2018 at 10:37 am #22530I tried it with full lock (left/right) once you reach full lock, it makes a faint whhoosshhing noise. A little like air seeping out. If I hold it on full lock the sound is constant, once I start to turn back it stops.
It’s the same on left and right lock.
Cheers
JohnJuly 2, 2018 at 3:00 pm #22541That proves that it is not the power steering pump, John. Eliminating causes is half the battle. Does the screeching happen when you are braking? Another cause could be the clutch release bearing, which happens unpredictably. For my money, it’s the pads, if it didn’t happen until after new pads were fitted. Might be something loose, or might be that they didn’t grease the back of the pads, or the pins. If it is the brake pads, metal-to-metal gives that screech. Had the same thing with a mate who changed his own pads and didn’t know that they were supposed to be greased.

I'm out.July 2, 2018 at 4:06 pm #22542While this thread is getting quite complex, a screeching sound could be a drive belt. They do not always screech and cane be unpredictable as to when they will become noisy. If they have not been properly tensioned or got slightly messy you can get polished lengths making a slip more likely. On the other hand it is just as likely something entirely different… Having recently spent a considerable sum on doing what the computer said were the likely fault causes only to find too late that it was a wiring issue and that the replaced parts were still fine, I still put a halfpenny on a contact, wiring, or binnacle issue.
The saga is helping me to understand the trend to use of electric assistance, something I once thought not such a good step.
July 2, 2018 at 4:12 pm #22545Quite right Richard, I should have thought of that, all my years in the trade! ? A simple adjustment of the fan belt is enough, unless the belt is worn and/or so highly polished that it slips. In which case a new belt should be cheap enough.

I'm out.July 2, 2018 at 6:14 pm #22551Bob, I have had some weird ones in the past, a new Mazda had a hard spot in the A/C drive belt where the maker’s mark had been stamped sending vibrations through the whole structure. There was another issue with that car, the condensate drained into a box section front leg with dire results.
July 2, 2018 at 7:12 pm #22555Thanks Bob & Richard
Whenever the fan belt screeches I drop a little 3in1 oil screech fixed, drive belt I am unsure of.
Back to it, when the wheels go round (n round, round n round) as I am driving, I hear the screech.
It feels / sounds like the ns front, when I put my foot on the break it stops, release the break it starts, this has only started since new break pads were fitted.
Usually they wear in and it stops, it’s been about 4-5 months and it still does it. Thruogh the cold spell I thought it was the damp, now it’s certainly not cold.
It’s not constant I can go a distance and not here it, then I hear it. When sitting in traffic, I may slowly creep forward and I can here it faintly screeching.
Cheers
JohnJuly 2, 2018 at 7:52 pm #22557Something may be loose on the caliper, pins or pad. Might be the backing plate, which tends to rust in places, break or bend a bit and contact the disc or inside of the wheel.
Having to squirt WD 40 on the fan belt is wrong, John. Replace the belt if it happens again.

I haven’t had a squeeky fan belt for a long time, I used three in one oil, only a micro amount and the belt shut up, that was in my Hillman Minx and maybe my Mini Van.

JohnJuly 3, 2018 at 6:41 pm #22599Since the recent oil & filter change.
Once the temp reaches above halfway and below the next notch.
It’s not happening much, however once I stop the Stop light flashes, it beeps, the oil light comes on and stops on (no longer flashes) as I was using the indicator I also noticed the indictor stopped working, once I pulled away the indicator came back on, once I reached 5mph or above it went ok. When I slowed down (below 5mph in traffic) it started again.
At a stand still the above happens and I turned the indicator on it wouldn’t work, till I moved off.
The indicator is a major concern, so I can’t use the car much as not to reach the temperature for the above to happen.
I am wondering if somethings saying the car needs to be scrapped, I did hear the goverment were scrapping all older cars, could it be a goverment conspiracy.
Cheers
