Open UPnP ports on home servers are helping crooks attack banks El Reg link. The advice is turn off UPnP if you can.

I must confess to being quite ignorant about UPnP. If anyone has answers to the following I’d like to hear them.

      a) Why isn’t UPnP turned off by default?

      b) Why cannot UPnP have ‘normal’ firewall rules or behave like Bluetooth i.e. scan ports only while being set up?

I guess the answer to both is the standard for UPnP but it seems a little like OLE – function trumps security concerns.

Following the advice quoted on your topic HERE I turned UPnP off and am waiting to see what impact ( if any ) it has.

I had a look but then decided to give it a miss.

What I did do was turn my router onto its side to maximise heat disipation.

pointless playing AAA games today, windows kickes em out when it starts getting al little to warm and my heat setting alarms start to go off.

Blah blah blah blah whooowhooo soundz like an episode of z cars. 🙂
