I picked up my phone this morning to find an App I had not downloaded, asking me to install it. As I had not requested it, I uninstalled it from Apps, but the icon was still on the screen, still asking me to install it. Powered off, gave it 10 min’s, powered on, booted up and it was gone. Checked in Apps, defo gone. Wondering WTF it was, I searched it (safely) This is why it is not something I would download:

I know, it’s just an ordinary Android App, some women must like it.

The icon is a pink horse’s head, or similar. The above description was passed to my missus and I asked if she would like to download it. I got one of those looks. You know, like they think you don’t really know them, after all these years….

You are lucky your wife is not as Tech Savvy as mine.

Mine would start off by asking ” Why is crap like this on your advertising preferences? What SORT of sites are you visiting?. Let me look at your browser history.

I’d never really know where the teasing ended, and the start of interrogation began!

More seriously, I’d worry about getting unsolicited installs. You should start with disabling app downloads from non-Playstore sources, as I would guess that something you installed in the last 90 days has come with a program pusher. First check your running apps, then Google away.

Thanks for that Ed, sorted after some differences in Sony Xperia software. My phone Android is 8.0.1.

No, my missus is not tech savvy nowadays. However, after working as a PA to 3 managers and running a workstation with complex databases, she had a botched operation which cost the dexterity of her left hand and lost much of the use in her right hand. She worked Front of Desk in a furniture manufacturing environment, operated as a County Council sheltered workshop employing mainly disabled staff, some industrially injured including miners. That ended in 1999 and she did not want to touch a computer again until the last 3 years, when I coaxed her into the local library then bought her the Lenovo laptop she now uses. My Gert just uses the lappy for email, ancestry, shopping (of course!) and contacting family, she has no intention of doing anything more involved than that.

But I would certainly face a Third Degree, were any suspicions of my entering the Dark Side to surface!
