I have a Cambridge Audio TV2 v2 sound base and I just got a Samsung UE49MU6400 telly. Now I have a TV with ARC on one of its HDMI ports I am trying to connect the sound base to that, but when I do I get no sound. The TV instructions say that ARC is always enabled on port 3 and that’s as far as they go. I have selected HDMI as the input on sound bar and I’m using an HDMI 1.4 lead but still nothing.

      Any ideas ?

No colnsolation to you but I’ve never had any luck with ARC. I don’t especially need it to work but would have liked to sort it out. In my case its a Denon AV receiver and a sony TV – just won’t work and wouldn’t with the Samsung before it. Hopefully someone comes along to provide a solution but if not do you have an optical or coax audio-only option that could get you out of jail between the TV and the sound bar?

I do have optical out on the TV and optical in on the sound bar but im using the optical connection on the sound bar to link it to my PC. I did it that way because the PC has my only Blue Ray player and also because it lets me play loud music from the PC if I like ?

With my old set up I plugged the headphone output from the telly into the phono jacks on the sound bar but the new TV has no headphone socket !

I may try pairing the telly with the sound bar via Bluetooth later but ARC really should work ?

Could something on this Amazon page work with the Optical connection, WoF?

Never tried one of these, I have a simple 2:1 Samsung soundbar connected to the TV and the TV connected to my Humax box via ARC and a 1.4 HDMI lead. Works fine, but with just HDMI I had no sound either.

Oo. Lots of interesting stuff on that link Bob. The 2 into 1 remote controlled toslink switch is an idea.

One other thing i just remembered. One reason i have a seperate optical cable between the The PC and the sound bar is because the PC refused to recognise my old Hitachi TV as an audio end point. My BenQ moniter worked fine but the TV was greyed out as an option. When I get back I will see if I have better luck with the new telly.

Yes, making different brand sources work together: e.g. a different brand TV/soundbar/STB can be a nightmare. Not to mention a PC or other device. All have various protocols. I have a Samsung soundbar, Sony Bravia TV, self-built desktop, 2 phones, a Hudl and a Lenovo tablet. The last two and phones just work, but getting the TV and soundbar needed some head-scratching. In the end I ditched the TV instructions and went with a mix of instinct, commonsense, trial and error.

I thought I had hedged my bets a bit with the TV and sound bar because I got them both from Richer Sounds and as they are both top sellers I thought any problems would have been spotted before. Not so though because when I told them about the problem they tried it themselves and were surprised it didn’t work ! They now reckon its something to do with the telly outputing Dolby Digital + over HDMI which the sound bar can’t decode. They are going to let me know.

On the plus side the consumer electronics control (CEC) over HDMI part works as advertised. The sound bar and Talk Talk STB are both recognised and I can control them both with the TV remote. Amazing, apart from the lack of sound of course ?
