It really is amazing what modern CPUs can do.

The very bottom end is still dodgy but move up a bit out of soc territory and things fly.

You will have got much improved Intel integrated graphics too which can really help with watching video.

          W-O-F, indeed.

I’m really sensitive to noise (autism again) and I can just hear the fan on this when it’s working hard. I’d put money on it that most people wouldn’t hear it all.

I’t did have a weird moment this morning when I logged on, no sound at all. It was in sleep mode, popped into settings, altered the volume a touch and it was back, this happened on my Chromebook a few times so I had a good idea what to do.

Now I’ve had a bit of time after Christmas I’ve narrowed the sound issue down to one set of problems. Pausing It Ain’t Half Hot Mum on YouTube. This is the official full set, including some ‘recovered’ lost episodes.

No matter what episode it is, if you pause it for a while (or overnight) and come back to it there’s no sound. Pausing it, switching outputs on the TV to another, launching an incognito YouTube window, playing any video for a few seconds then switching back to It Ain’t Half Hot Mum solves the problem. It doesn’t happen using any other video outputs but I can’t get the colours to match the ones using HDMI.

I’ve tried using different HDMI cables but the issue remains the same. Any other YouTube video doesn’t cause the issue, or any other video player like Netflix. My take on it is for some bizarre reason when it’s paused it knackers the audio over HDMI. Totally new one for me. ?

Wish I could help. My PC did the same thing for a while but then it just stopped doing it.

It’s no longer an issue as I’ve finished all of It Ain’t Half Hot Mum now.

                Very strange though.

Come to think of it, I noticed the problem had gone just after I got a new TV. Still none the wiser though ?
