Thunderbolt & Lightening I think that’s how Freddie put it.
However you get the lightening before the thunder
Here in the Midlands we’re getting everybody’s share, been on now for 2hrs (round here) no let up.
Yes the rain with it, the most I have seen on record (others have probably seen more).
I count the seconds from flash-to-bang and always thought 1 second per mile (away). I Just checked on the internet and it’s 5 seconds per mile.
So it was nearer than first thought, just out the back, Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo, Gallileo, FigaroWith no end of sirens from the services.
Cheers
JohnMay 27, 2018 at 7:21 pm #21226Heavy Rain started about an hour ago. Thunder about ten mins.
Not noticed any lightning yet.
I love the stuff, find the noise of a storm really carming. One of my lads is terrified of thunder and lightning.
Nothing better than a cold night, lying in bed listening to a storm, and looking out to see hopeing to see a fork hit it and bounce
May 27, 2018 at 7:43 pm #21227It’s passing me, allegedly. Might get a rumble or 2 but not much.

May 27, 2018 at 8:58 pm #21231Currently showing on a line from Aylesbury to Coventry and Derby to Stoke-on-Trent.
See HERE.
It was supposed to be here in Thanet from 5pm till 11pm tonight but there’s been no sign of it and the forecast shows nothing about it now, also tomorrow but that’s now showing for Wednesday.
May 27, 2018 at 9:01 pm #21232We had an amazing storm about 2am and another about 4pm (just south of Coventry). Both consisted of a couple of hours of constant thunder – i.e. no gaps, just one rolling thunder on top of the next. Some awesome flashes too, often 10 within 10 seconds.

Gallileo Figaro – magnificoMy son for years thought the chorus line to “In the Air Tonight” was “Hold on” as opposed to the correct “Oh Lord ” – in fact he used to call it the Hold On song!!
May 27, 2018 at 10:13 pm #21244No such entertainment here. Been to a beauty spot about 60 miles away in Notts all day, just boring blue skies and 25ºC until about 6 pm, when we went home. Still warm here now, no entertaining weather.
Bummer.

I'm out.May 28, 2018 at 8:02 am #21247After problems with my wife’s car and its battery going flat I set up a rota to take the car out every Sunday morning to give a bit of air time and battery time, Sunday was no exception and was out for about an hour. Nice quiet roads early on a Sunday so I did about 40 miles and gave it an hour’s run all good and kosher. I did a bit of shopping and then contemplated the grass, not having a sheep or goat it has been getting on with growing. We had thunder the night before but the amount of rain was barely enough to worry a tissue paper hat so the outside was hot and humid with bright light. Ideal grass growing weather. I was urged to at least cut the rear larger lawn before the promised rain arrived. That was an unpleasant experience and the threatened rain did not arrive even over night. The night was not great my wife was disturbed, I was disturbed and the threat of rain had kept the windows minimally open meaning that the room was not comfortable until independence was declared about 03:30 this morning and widows were opened. On nights like these we really miss air-conditioning.
On a brighter note, we stopped having any alcoholic drinks just before the chemo was to start, my consumption went to zero and the evening snack habit went away, the impact on my weight has been very beneficial though that may not be sustainable at 5.5lbs per week.
Bob, with all this activity I guess your weight has not had much chance to recover from the hospital stay and operation induced loss – though that is too brutal a route to loss for my tastes.
May 28, 2018 at 1:01 pm #21252No Richard, my weight has not recovered, although some of that is down to increased physical activity and some to my continuing resistance to biccies and chocolate! The beauty spot we visited yesterday was Rufford Country Park, in my birth county of Nottinghamshire:
The county has always been well endowed with such attractions, but Rufford is well worth a visit for anyone who is around the Sherwood Forest area. The lake is a huge area, although some years ago the presence of the Nottinghamshire coalfield and its attendant subsidence issues, caused the lake bed to split and massive amounts of water were lost. I have some photos of the damage somewhere, but nowadays you would not think that it had never been anything other than a large, tranquil body of water, with lots of waterfowl. There are always lots of visitors, but the lake is so big that there is always a quiet spot somewhere. SWMBO and I walked about halfway round the lake, which is 150 acres, so we must have walked a fair bit and explains why neither of us took more than a few seconds to fall asleep last night.
I am now at 10 stone and 11 pounds and none of my trousers fit! As I have a parastomal hernia on the left, my abdomen is unnaturally extended on that side, which creates occasional comments from those who do not know me (and know no better) with regard to a Beer Belly. I correct these people by explaining exactly what happened to me, which usually has them changing facial colour. I have to wear high-waisted trousers in order to keep everything in check and free from abrasion. The only place I have found that makes these, is https://www.chums.co.uk/ and they have generally been fine, until the last order of two pairs of trousers, dropping two waist sizes. One pair was fine, but the other was 2″ longer in the leg than the label stated. I had also ordered a leather belt, which came obviously used, damaged, broken by some numpty trying to make further holes in it with an inappropriate tool. You can bet that i sent both belt and trousers back, with photos of the damaged belt and the difference in leg length shown by comparing trousers and measuring clearly with a seamstress’ tape. (SWMBO’s) Why does no one carry out their workplace duties accurately and conscientiously anymore?

I'm out.May 28, 2018 at 2:08 pm #21255Bob, above all you are getting about and enjoying life, that is what matter. Sorry about the trouser order,I guess something was returned, not checked properly and sent out to the next in line. I far prefer higher wasted trousers though this is purely a comfort issue. I envy your weight, not the way you got there! It is somewhere near to my target, though I still need binoculars find the distant objective, two more stones to go.
I will look up those trouser people one day, I have some, ‘slimmer fit’ ones from the days of yore in my cupboard.
