If you do not like/trust Google with your emails then these Opensource alternatives may be of interest. Sypheed is the only one offering a complete TBird alternate, Trojita runs on Windows but in a way is not much different from using a browser to access email. The other two are Linux only solutions.
August 8, 2017 at 3:34 pm #10853I see one of the better ones was not listed on there for Linux, Evolution. Geary which I believe is dead now and forked onto something else was or a pile of s**** and chucked out so many errors it was joke. Evolution is my choice and I have not checked but I hope it’s still supported.
Geary mail now Pantheon Mail and Evolution is still evolving.

August 8, 2017 at 4:24 pm #10858I use online mail on Linux as I’ve only a 60GB SSD and that’s 50% full with the install and pictures/documents. I suppose I could symlink the data folder to elsewhere but on Fastmail seems reasonable enough.

August 9, 2017 at 1:38 am #10876I’m currently running the 2009 version of Windows Live Mail, Emclient (free version), Claws Mail & Thunderbird portable.
Had to revert to WLM 2009 because the 2011 version no longer supported Usenet & it would not format replies correctly.
Tried Mailbird, Pegasus & Sylpheed but uninstalled them for various reasons (which I can’t now remember).

Emclient – http://www.emclient.com/download

August 9, 2017 at 9:10 am #10883Just tried Slypheed and it looks to be OK. Just want something light to complement online email and it looks like it will do the trick. The incoming and outgoing settings took a bit of tweaking but not too much (primary email is GMX and their web client is waful). Outlook is overkill and Windows 10 Mail has a few niggles – I’ll give this one a little while then it might be a keeper.
