Last coat purchase was the Snugpak Sleeka. Have found it immensely useful sat on the range with cadets. And in the cadet office before the heating kicks in! Was £20 cheaper on eBay than direct (and delivered to Argos so was easier to collect). Great coat. Wouldn’t want to go hiking in it though as I’d overheat.

February 20, 2017 at 10:54 pm #4211I had a couple of jackets like them, I can’t recall the make, snug pak, pack lite (though that was my old berghaus so wasn’t pack light, bit similar, they was great, very warm and the whole item retracted into its own pocket.
not cheap, but the RM issue ‘ho chi minh’ warm weather suit was terrible, Bob may recall them. The pants was worse. They was crap, and took up a ton of space in the began, so would never even make it into a patrol sack. With the pack light snugly, you good just put that in your parrot back ad your gortex outer bag. No need for a sleeping bag. More room for ammo and rations.

Lol it was Snugpak softie’s. I’m an idiot.
Though looking at the current ‘sofites’ the old ones wasn’t quilted, looked more like the one you linked to. But then they was deaf softies. I bet they was the first they did. Mid 90s it was.
February 20, 2017 at 11:27 pm #4212Jason, could be a high risk category as pretty much all I get from E-Bay is MS licences.
But the very first time I was offered the option (July 16) was for a £16 NEW Genuine DELL Latitude E4300 Laptop UK Keyboard PN C441C / 0C441C
Item Number 221287997878The seller was itparts4you (3505) 100% positive Feedback http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/itparts4you
Doesn’t seem that risky.
On clothing it’s always worth keeping an eye open for Dickies sales. OK some of the trousers are clearly “workwear” due to the plethora of pockets. But everything else could pass for “normal” clothing. The £9 polo shirts are better than anything else I’ve got at three times the price. I wear my really comfortable Storm Safety Hiker Trainer outside of work too, and it’s VAT free at £28.50. No-one can tell it’s steel toe cap until you kick them in the nuts.
February 21, 2017 at 12:26 am #4213Lol, Dave, I have then I’m gray but in a trainer, with a steal toe cap, I was given then about 2001 buy a friend that was issued them at work, but he didn’t like then. I still use them to this date for home improvements, like when I took the walls down, and when I built the new wall 9′ around my “borrowed” back land.
Borrowed as my back yard was about 10 feet in depth, then a big drop off, but about a 10foot ally way, untill the mountain falls away. All the other houses had “borrowed the land, just leaving a metre, so I pushed my wall out to, so we could have a small lawn. One that grass refuses to grow on! You win some you lose some. It will flagged one day

Well the Sleeka’s are also known as Softies now – think it’s more to do with the stuffing. This one packs down into a separate stuff sack (no internal pocket now) but it’s extremely handy (and pretty warm!)
Currently as a Civilian Instructor with the cadets, I can wear whatever I like on the range or when on exercise so I’ve less of an issue picking items to stay warm or dry in :good: Though with my (imminent, though still awaiting paperwork!) trip to Cranwell, I may well have a lot less choice about my clothing on exercise in the future! Though they have just changed the commission so they’ve removed RAFVR(T) and replaced it with a Cadet Forces Commision which will apply to all three forces commissioned ranks. And I’ll wear RAFAC (Royal Air Force Air Cadets) pins instead of VRT pins.

February 21, 2017 at 4:11 pm #4235Best coat I ever bought is still with me, only just beginning to show its age: 21 years. Never seen another, it’s a full length fake sheepskin (but thick) with a shiny lining and is very warm. Full length metal zip, two large metal-zip side pockets. It is called a “Westwind” never seen another and never found the manufacturer. Youngest gdaughter christened it Shaun the Sheep a few years ago, after the cartoon show that we both still watch and laugh at today. It was expensive, even in the EWM sales:
£15. I hate buying clothes and would be happy at buying from the charity shop racks. The only one in the family who does the same, is my SIL, we have very similar taste in clothes and swop locations of clothes the other would like in charity shops. According to my daughter, wife and all other family members, means that we both have no taste whatsoever.
I like Shaun because the sleeves are long enough to roll over my hands when it’s cold. I hate wearing gloves. The pockets are also secure enough for my phone and other stuff. I have no idea how I will replace Shaun when he eventually wears out and goes to pasture in the sky. Something will come up.
