Thank goodness for the Synology backup.
Managed to screw up some of my photos and images today trying to move some data around – was trying to move my photos in to the photos folder and deduplicate these. I had been using the Dropbox photo uploader to move photos from my phone to my PC and then these were synced between machines using Resilo Sync (and Hazel to automatically file them) in the past and using DS Photo to automatically backup the same photos to the photo library on the NAS as a pure backup. I’ve decided to switch as Dropbox doesn’t work with Live Photos on the iPhone, but DS Photo does(!)
Anyhow, I decided to try and rid myself of the duplicates and recreate my folder layout in the DS Photo’s folder, as well as taking the chance to file some older photos in to my filing system.
At the same time, I tried to use the new Synology Drive to sync the items between my Mac and the NAS, so that I could use the duplicate finder from the Mac.
Long story short, I screwed it up! I should have downloaded the photos first, then performed the duplicate hunting and removals after it had synced.
So now I’m waiting for the Synology restore to finish before I have another go!

May 2, 2018 at 6:18 pm #20315I’ve just discovered the Storage Analyzer app, it has a duplicate file section and you can delete a duplicate file from there if you want. Have you turned recycle bins on?
I’ve moved my own PCs from Cloud Station to Drive but unless you want to collaborate by logging into the server to work it’s probably not going to happen for my customers already using CS. New customers I’ll use Drive though.
Do you know you can get a PC app called Hyper Backup Explorer? It deals with previous file versions as well as the latest backup set.
May 2, 2018 at 6:50 pm #20320I saw the duplicate finder last night having done some Googling, but didn’t bother with it, as I’ve already purchased Gemini in the past. I don’t have the recycle bin on – partly because I’ve not used Drive/Cloudstation previously and relied on Resilo Sync which creates it’s own “trash” folder.
I’d seen Hyper Backup Explorer – I was interested in it as I have some backups in the cloud and it would appear to be quicker to download from Dropbox and use the PC to restore rather than the NAS.
Thankfully, I’m all restored now so I’ll download all the files into a separate folder on my PC perform the changes and then upload the files to the machine again separately!
