      Now then…

Is Zelda any good? It has a 98% aggregate review score. Nuff said.

If your a zelda fan, which I am it was always going to be good. And non zelda fans was going to review it, so the reviews was always going to be near on perfect. If they had been closer to 90 which normally is a good score, I’d be seriously worried about it.

Been reading all the reviews of the switch this morning, waiting for the hangover to lift, and at this point it’s one big circle jerk, of game reviewers and early fan adopters.

There is a few things people are moving about, but they are the same teething issues all new things have, ie people finding things to pick holes in. Ie the ps4 and Xbox and do this…… Calm down they will come.

I really like the ifixit findings, the thing should be very serviceable, as it comes apart easy and is modular, so there will be a good trade in broken switches and it also leasing my anxiety of spending £300 on a handheld for a 9yo.

Quick question. You probably can’t answer it, and you definitely won’t want to test it, but once the screen is broken, do you reckon as long it’s use the lcd, it will work as a console?  It should do, and knowing 90% of broken ones will be screen damage, it will be nice to know that the don’t hobble it, to not work as as console if the screen breaks.

Normally this would be a no brainer but Nintendo are the origanal horrible company and I wouldn’t put it wast them, as it would be simple for them to do it.

Where did you buy your Jason, did they offer Inc protection? Game store used to offer the best 2 or 3 year unlimited warranty on DS for iirc years £20 or £25, that was a no brainer. And we used that cover to its fullest. I reckon upto £50 on this would be a instant yes, over £50 Id have to think on it. Then in 12 months time kick myself for not getting it lol.

Got mine from Tesco. No-one else had the neon version (coloured Joy-Cons) available, not even Amazon. I also ordered the standard grey one, which also arrived on launch day. I’ll be sending that back to Amazon unopened. The limited-edition Zelda came direct from Nintendo — again, no-one else had it available.

Hadn’t thought about the screen issue you mention, but seeing that the device can live its entire life in the dock, with the screen off, I would think that a damaged screen would not affect continued use as a TV console. As you say, there may be some gotcha — no doubt someone will tell us soon enough!

The game is, quite frankly, a work of art.

His house, his spare bedroom. I couldn’t afford the lecky bill. Anorak doen’t even come close, he is forever hunting for old games. I spent a lot of  time changing the batteries in some of the old cartridges he has, didn’t know they even had them.

Know what you mean – we afforded our gas and leccy much better when our son moved out.

He’d come home from school and change into shorts and T shirt, turn the stat up on the central heating, get too hot so he’d open a window ?, go upstairs and play a game on his console in the bedroom, come downstairs and switch the TV on, then onto the computer for a chat…………………….. by which time we’d come in from work to the heating full blast, windows open, lights on all over the shop, TV playing to itself, Game-on-hold music chortling away, and he wondered why we went ballistic!!

However when he moved into his own flat and got a £500 quarterly leccy bill, he suddenly became Scrooge overnight!! :yahoo: Justice:)

Jason and all other potential buyers, watch the video below. It’s a drop test of the switch, and it fairs extremely well. The up shot is, the screen looks to be plastic, so it won’t break easily but the down side to that is it does scratch easily. But scratches are are better than shattering.

So put a tempered glass protector on it, if or when one is avalible and you’ll have an almost industrials body.

The pads didn’t hold up so good, but apparently are cheap un like ps4 £50 controllers!

                            Warning you will wince

There’s no weight to the Joy-Cons, so they’d be difficult to break. They do include the HD Rumble feature, a camera, IR sensor, and the usual motion sensors, however, so I guess there’s a lot inside that could become damaged!

Jason I was just reading that the dock is scratching many users Switch displays, given they are plastic, which is a good call imo but a set back is easily scratchable.

Untill you can get tempered glass protector, people are putting the self adhesive felt pads on the inside lip of the dock to protect the screen.

Personally I’d not scratch it, but I’d not be along in using it and kids are Heavy handed at the best of times. So just a thought.

Something Ive not seen mentioned is you will be able to polish and scratches out as the plastic screen is very, very thick, so a few light scratches wouldn’t be the end of the world. But polishing it would leave a micro hollow that would probably stop any glass protector fitting properly.

Tbh the more I’m reading about it, the more I’m loosing intrest in it. Which is sad as I’ve been looking forward to it, if not full sold.

And I’m a sicker for being the first in line for crap I don’t need. The only reason I wasn’t in the que is the last decent niniy was the Cube. The fact this is handled made be but the wii and wii u to the back of my mind, but I just wasn’t excited enough to pull the trigger early.

Now You few non fan boy reviews are coming out, the more Im happy with my decision.

Hopefully some decent games come along, we know a de entire Mario and M Kart will be along.

The worst thing I’ve heard so far is Zeldas docked fps is dropping  to low 20s, not a great start.

I just (8pm) installed a gameboy emulator on my Pixel, and have spent far to long playing, Mario, wario, bugs, zelda (for too long) and tetris.

It worked flawlessly, has simple saves, and was so nostalgic. Wasted alot of hours.

A few friends at work have bought one and say the Switch is very good and worth the money (relatively).  They also say Zelda is very good and yet non have them have put much time into it.  There was a time when you’d grind throigh a game from start to finish but the more open-worldy they getbthe less time people make to play it.

The framerate dips a bit in places in Zelda when the Switch is in the dock. That’s true. But in no way does it scupper enjoyment of the game — it’s not severe — and the Switch is clearly not aimed at players whose focus is on framerate and cutting-edge game engines. A 6″ tablet was never going to have the same performance as the PS4 or Xbone.
