Hi All
I was trying to get a Laptop through the Home Tech scheme at work but despite trying and going back and forth with a guy from there I cant find a Laptop that works for me, i’m fussy as I will have this for years. I was wondering if any of you could help?
I am after the following:
SSD 500gb at least
16gb Ram
Backlit Keyboard
Must have large enter key
At least 15″I want to use it as a general machine, coding etc but also for games, WoW, COD, GTA etc…
Any suggestions?

June 15, 2020 at 3:39 pm #59484Hey around 700-900 i think
June 15, 2020 at 3:53 pm #59486You’re unlikely to find that spec off the shelf. I suggest you go straight to the custom builders like PC Specialist. Plus you’ll probably need to up the budget for gaming.
June 16, 2020 at 7:03 am #59491I’m afraid I cannot help, but looking at your spec what you really want is a custom keyboard as the rest is not that out of the ordinary.
If you are happy to mainly use the machine on a desk/table then I’d suggest just find a suitable keyboard and plug it in. Most laptops work quite happily with an external usb or wireless keyboard. Of course this solution is neither portable ot suitable for use on your lap.
June 16, 2020 at 9:21 pm #59503Based on the specs and costs of the Zephyrus G14 (which apparently has the best AMD chip in at the minute), you might not be able to have all you want for that price. (you’re looking at double the cost for most of the specs you want according to eBuyer. The cheaper one is just over £1000 but that drops you to 8GB.) Both are 14″ not 15″ though.
It would be what I would have purchased, had I not just gone back to macOS for a portable

June 16, 2020 at 9:43 pm #59506I was browsing Ebuyer myself earlier and saw THIS – it seems to hit all of your wants ( not sure the CPU is fast enough for your games ) except for the big Enter key and rather OTT on the budget.
June 16, 2020 at 10:03 pm #59509This is why I suggested a custom builder, you only pay for what you want.

Too rich for my blood, but why only Win 10 Home at that price? Or does it not make a difference?

I'm out.June 18, 2020 at 5:51 pm #59539iirc if you wanted Pro, it was £100 DEARER!! :negative: Which is crazy in the days of £5 – £10 upgrade licenses!!

I don’t think there’s a huge difference – you lose out on Bitlocker (well, creating Bitlocker drives, as you can still open them). Micorsoft have a page on the differences, and there’s very little there that would get me as a home user to upgrade.
That said, I did upgrade my laptop to Pro using a key from eBay for Bitlocker – that was only about £10.

June 19, 2020 at 12:19 pm #59596Many thanks for the replies guys, looking into your information would mean Home would be fine for me. I am still actually finding advantages and benefits from moving to Win10 now, after> 6 months.
