I ordered mine on the 1st Feb – decided to give myself a birthday present and a post Covid treat (as I’ve just been bedridden for a week and barely operating for another week). That and I really had an itch to play Advance Wars but the the Gameboy versions I’ve got, the battieres have died in the cartridge, so the save games no longer save, so Steam Deck and some emulation and I should be good to go.

That and the weekend before, I decided to sit downstairs to play some games in the lounge where everyone else was, and ended up having to cart the laptop downstairs, the power brick (which is as heavy as the laptop) and then had to get a mouse etc as well. This would be a lot easier to sit and play.

Been trying to play the recent ish Doom.

I’m not good with shooters and thumb sticks.

In about an hour I wasn’t dying so much.

Still need more practice but the game plays amazing.

Drezha, sorry to hear that you got wacked by the dreaded Covid. I hope that your family are all ok. Although the temptation is to push yourself, apparently that is not a good move after Covid. BMJ link

Both the wife and I succumbed two weekends ago and I’m testing negative now, since 5 days ago, but feeling very rough still. It put me in bed for the first four days plus prolonged spells sleeping for the next week, I suspect that temperature regulation was the charm, more than actual sleep, I know that just getting up to the loo set off a sequence of sneezes, racking coughs and occasional upchucks!!! It’s taken me a lot longer than the wife, but she had to be prescribed steroids and anti-biotics to fight off an additional chest infection, because of her COPD and I’m sure this assisted her speedy recovery. When I asked on the 111 service whether I qualified for the anti-virals, I actually did, having had Lymphoma, but was disqualified because it was in remission!! Talk about a good news/bad news call!!!

Family is OK – I had been hit the worst. Been back at work this week, but have a real brain fog and pretty fatigued. I did cycle to work today but used my wife’s eBike as I thought I would need the assistance and I wasn’t wrong!

@Drezha, there is now a lot of research that links Long Covid with an imbalance in the gut biome. Example Link

I do not know if you have any dietary restrictions, but you may find that a live goat yoghurt helps increase the proportion of lactobacillus bugs in your gut, while the inulin mentioned in the link can be obtained from many Health Food Shops. My personal preference is to add Oat Bran to my breakfast cereal as its soluble fibreis known to provide a healthy home for gut bugs.

Again back on the diet front Covid may cause long term problems with mineral and vitamin intake, so you may want to take a look at whether you get enough sources of the following: Zinc, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3. I’ll admit that research on the mineral/vitamin front is sparse, but there is no money in it for Big Pharma (boo hiss). Some of these such as Zinc are defintely affected by dietary restrictions on rich sources like shellfish. B12 can be similarly affected.

I hope some of this helps as there is nothing worse than brain-fug in the sort of job you do.

Thanks for the links. I’ll have a look some probiotics – I’d already purchased and started using vitamins when the test came back as positive, so I’ve been using those since.

Other than that, I’m trying to keep active to a degree but nothing to over the top at the minute and hopefully it’ll pass. According to the NHS website, I’m not considered to have long Covid until after 12 weeks.
