May get round to install installing an SSL cert this evening or tommorow. The keyword “forumite” was on page 2 of google refering to this place, now it’s 2 on page 1 which is all well and good but one push with an SSL cert may just bring it up to 1st spot. Not likely to bring new members in but still it would be nice to have it no.1. Some older android browsers may chuck an hissy fit but we’ll see.

Forumite Points: 0I have a fresh install (Windows 7) with a shiny new Mozilla Firefox
On connecting to Forumite it said
The owner of forumite.co.uk has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.
forumite.co.uk uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER
I added an exception (as I trust this site) it connected
February 16, 2017 at 9:20 pm #3923JB, this may not be down to Forumite. Which Internet Security/AV do you have? I had this with Kaspersky and I found how to cure it. If you don’t have that, access Firefox, go to Menu Bar at the top and click Help. In the Search Box, type “Website not configured properly” (without quotes) and see what it brings up. I am looking into it, but busy elsewhere atm, back tomorrow.
I have Firefox and my problem was same as yours, fixed in Kaspersky Total Security.

I'm out.February 16, 2017 at 10:04 pm #3931Just had an identical post from AOL – their new ‘sign in forum or something’ – yet access to it via AOL news was OK. I was using FF.

February 16, 2017 at 11:56 pm #3939A mozilla dev says its not the browser, it’s 3rd party AV that are to blame.
February 17, 2017 at 9:05 am #3956I’ll be looking into the ssl again over the weekend. There may be something a miss.

February 17, 2017 at 9:46 am #3959I use Firefox but have no problems of this type, though I have seen it with other sites that did have genuine certificate issues or when the PC date/time was wrong.
February 17, 2017 at 10:10 am #3961John – This was a problem for me about a year ago – I was using W7 and FF then as well, but have since moved over to Chrome and W10. Kaspersky support gave me the solution that I’ve copied below. It should solve your problem, just replace the Kaspersky element with your own AV programme.
In case this issue occurs when using Firefox, please perform the following steps:
1) Please enable hidden files and folders display.
In Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/show-hidden-files
2) Launch Firefox and click on the menu icon (the three-stripe symbol in the upper right corner) > Options > Advanced > Certificates > View Certificates > Authorities.
3) Find the Certificate “AO Kaspersky Lab. – Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Root Certificate”.
If found once: Click on the second line of the entry and delete it by clicking “Delete or Distrust”.
If found several times: Delete all entries.
If there is no entry, proceed with step 4.4. Close all of your browsers // Important Step //
5. Open up Kaspersky. From the left hand corner, please click on the Gear Icon for Settings.
6. From the left hand list, please select ADDITIONAL
7. From the right hand list, please click on NETWORK
8. Under the “Encrypted Connections Scanning” please select “Advanced Settings”
9. Click on the Button INSTALL CERTIFICATE. Proceed with the Instructions, click on NEXT.
https connections should no longer be interrupted now.
It worked for me. :good:
February 17, 2017 at 8:14 pm #3998That is exactly the procedure I carried out, I should have gone into the Kaspersky angle as thoroughly myself. It always crops up after every upgrade, every 12 months. JayCeeDee, I am going to copy and paste that, well done sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar!

Forumite Points: 0Thanks JayCee I use AVG and can’t get past step 3 to continue I don’t have a settings cog, in AVG settings it’s nothing like Kaspersky settings.
Perhaps I should use Kaspersky as Bob vouches for your help.
Edit:
Sadly Kaspersky is only free for Barclays customers
February 17, 2017 at 11:42 pm #4013-On the AVG support site, someone sorted this by disabling the “AVG Do Not Track addon for Firefox”. Check if this is relevant to you.
Also, it seems that LogMeIn ( from AVG?? ) can cause problems, it needs white-listing. On-Line Shield can be de-activated to resolve this as well. But you need to contact AVG as per THIS post. I don’t know whether I would let them have remote access to my PC though.:(
February 18, 2017 at 1:18 am #4016I think it may be on your end lee, as today my phone has reverted back to the “not private” mode again. It was fine for two days.
February 18, 2017 at 9:19 am #4023May be a ‘phone’ or add-on issue as no problems are reported on FireFox under a Linux PC
February 18, 2017 at 6:39 pm #4084Had the error other android users have had but now seems OK after a few server tweaks on my android device, I’ll await others responses. I did clear my android browsing history so that may have helped to.
