I was after a 2.5″ SSD, for the money I have I must settle for 120GB. However I came across this

Seagate 500GB 2.5 inch Laptop Solid State Hybrid Drive really cheap, so I ordered one.

Have I purchased the wrong type or is it the same/better than usual SSDs

Should I have stuck with a Netac SSD 128GB 120GB Internal SSD Hard Drive Disk SATA SSD 2.5

      Is

      Cheers

They are a good compromise John, I used them a  lot before SSDs came down in price.

They have a small SSD internally, you can’t access it yourself but the firmware uses it to cache your most used files (or even just parts of files). So when you first fire it up you’ll not notice any difference as the cache is empty. After a few reboots it will have put lots of the Windows files in the cache and boot times will improve accordingly. Over a day or two it will do the same with your favourite apps and it’ll keep an eye out to see if your use changes.

It’ll never be a fast as an SSD but it will make a difference where it matters and you’ll have plenty of space.

Thanks for your pointers Dave, it sounds I should be happy with it.

          Cheers

Great ‘Steam’ disk as usually you just load the game and the SSD cache handles most of the games disk access.

              Thanks Ed

To be honest I seemed to have problems loading Win 10 on it. I returned it and purchased an integral SSD.

I still seemed to have problems, so I returned the integral and concluded it was the Lenovo (or me) so I gave up on it.

              Cheers
