I am trying to think of a user name from MM forum. He had a narrowboat. He was well renowned for causing arguments and practicaly disagreeing with anyone and everything and he was suspected as person who often had written in to the magazine and this phrase rings a bell “I am not ………” or “I am the real”.

March 2, 2020 at 9:06 am #41157Was it a Tony something???
March 2, 2020 at 9:21 am #41159It could be but to be honest I am not sure. I tried wayback machine but it’s not working for me. Wish I had not left all my MM mags at an ex’s house now 🙁

March 2, 2020 at 10:23 am #41164I remember someone calling himself “I’m the real …” inhabiting the letters page. IIrc He was always spending obscene amounts of money on kit which he never got to work because he would never rtfm and subsequently either bought something incompatible or screwed up the installation.

March 2, 2020 at 10:55 am #41168Sorry do not remember, but I thought the name was slightly more unusual, and for some reason I think the first name was Andrew.
Incidentally, my wife and I like taking holidays where we can walk from one location to another along a canal tow path (Kennet and Avon is our favourite). We would often stop and chat to the boat owners and a common complaint that they had was the difficulty in registering with a GP, or having a fixed abode for legal purposes. I guess there must be ways around these issues, but it is one to watch if you do manage to live your dream.
March 2, 2020 at 11:03 am #41169Yep I have looked at all that. Banks, doctors etc…. And digging deep and according to many by law you can walk into any doctors at any time. They won’t like it and will argue the toss but with a bit stubaness and pointing out the fact, in the end they have to give in. Banks, well thats an unknowen, there is mixed views. Most just use a friends or familys address but I believe some banks you can get arround it. Post etc… Can be done by using some sort of royal mail/post offcice service that as a french sound name but I forget now but they send your post to the nearest post office you request.

March 2, 2020 at 2:39 pm #41182Just Remembered:
Andrew Redding — I have no idea if that was a real name, I did not even know that he had a narrow boat.
This guy maybe?
March 2, 2020 at 2:52 pm #41184I think we are on about the one and the same. He started off with the username “I am the real Andrew” or the like but soon changed it to tcook. At the time I had a little chatroom on my then windows blog which some MM members would come. Knightmare “From Scotland” SGB101, and Tcook among others.

March 2, 2020 at 9:13 pm #41225Anyone remember Grenville Grimace?
An argument looking for a place to happen, that bloke.

I'm out.March 2, 2020 at 9:44 pm #41241That was him I think numerous people kept writing in and taking the p!ss claiming to be him because he wrote in so much (I think that was how it panned out). That’s why he became I’m the real Andrew Redding.
March 2, 2020 at 9:56 pm #41242I remember the letters but not them being on the forum.
March 2, 2020 at 11:09 pm #41246I am the real TCOOK. I think 🙂
TCook43 was the forumite. I think he left MM before the transfer here.
I think Dave’s right about Andrew Redding too. I don’t think the real one actually posted on the forum, if he even existed. There was a theory that he only lived inside a writer’s head, but it was never proven either way.
