I currently run a set-up consisting of 4 x HD resolution IP cameras, which uses an ancient Acer Revo (Atom 330 CPU with an nvidia ION gpu and DDR2 ram) as the base station and ‘brains’ of the set-up. At present it just about copes with the load (the CPU is 95-100% loaded ALL the time). This makes it a total pain to do any file house-keeping or multi-tasking. I think the time is overdue to retire the Acer!
Looking at the raw comparison numbers for the Atom versus an old Intel i3 320 (cannot get comparisons for the later steppings) this should give me about 15% head-room — enough I think for my maintenance tasks.
Just to give me a little reassurance; will a Brix i3 set-up be man enough to give me some multi-tasking room, or is there a better choice?
