Needed to create some bootable USB sticks, one DOS to update the BIOS and the other UEFI to install Ubuntu on a Gigabyte Brix.
The trail lead to a wonderful utility called Rufus http://rufus.akeo.ie/
It lets you use format the stick as GPT and you use an EFI aware ISO, like Ubuntu or Win 7+, to make it EFI bootable. For Ubuntu the advice was to also add a file called bootia32.efi in the /EFI/BOOT folder. Get it from http://tinyurl.com/omfc8f6
For DOS it has Freedos built in which did the job for the BIOS update – which nearly bricked the Brix. FFS how does a BIOS update that knackers booting from an internal drive get past testing?
