Yeah. I liked the way the psu gave more than alot. How the rig maxed out a household 13amp supply and underclocking the 3090 by 30watts and only losing 1% performance to allow the experiment to work. Which makes me wonder Nvidia what was you thinking.

These new cards suck way to much power and the new 2070 is way over 200watts. Infact its about 70watts over my 1070. Thats a non starter for me.

But, yeah, Vroom on jet engine styley.

I had a once state of the art CAD machine in here last year. First Gen i7, 8GB ram, RAID 0 HDDs and the then best graphics card (I forget what it was). The lights dimmed when you turned it on. I tried it with an SSD but it just wasn’t worth it.

In much the same way a mate inherited a 3rd Gen i5 from stepson ex game designer who was emigrating to Canada. We decided to leave the leccy sucking graphics card out as he was only going to use it for office and social media. Saved him a fortune.

I suspect that the biggest cards are now used for AI, or vector work, or rolling Bitcoins.

Yes the article alludes to as much. It was all about CUDA workloads.

Of course to even get a system that could handle this many top end cards it wasn’t your enthusiast mobo job. I didn’t realise just how different these non-mainstream boards have become until I built the X299 CAD monster. I just don’t get involved in server building any more either. I just spin up what I want in Digital Ocean’s cloud and only pay by the minute for projects that don’t quite work and $5 to $10 a month for those that do.

                  At least the power draw of a 2400W supply wouldn’t be a problem in this country. 240/30V x 13A = ~3000W.

I built my current i7/X58 PC with an i7 930 and a single Radeon HD5770, I then brought a HD5750 by mistake but as it had the same amount of memory and was also a 5000 series I decided to give it a go as the second card in X Fireconfiguration anyway.

To my surprise, the scores in most benchmarks more or less doubled. In the benchmarks where the score didn’t double it hardly changed at all, meaning they were not taking advantage of X Fire.

The system stayed like that until I got a single RX480 and the score doubled again on ALL benchmarks 😃

My Gigibyte X58 mobo came X4 SLI certified and it has 4 16x slots that can supply 8 PCIe 2 lanes each.

I would be interested to know if the 4 card setup setup they tested would work, so if someone could just send me 4x RTX 3090 cards ?

                    🤣😂🤣
