REALLY cretinous and annoying new Linux feature

I recently updated my Linux distro and subsequently discovered that nearly everything I did was being plagued by random pastes from the buffer. It took me far too long to realise that somehow it was associated with using the mousewheel for scrolling. Most things I tried did not seem to work, but at last I discovered all the fixes required:
