BL, looks like you are getting our Psycho back:
Be gentle with the lad, he’s had a bad time for a while. ?? What a heck of a servant he was to Forest and England, though, gave it everything and took no prisoners. Another former Forest player, Kenny Burns, has said (in the Nottingham Post) that Stuart Pearce was an aggresive player, who could not take that aggression into coaching and management, which I think is quite correct: he was just too nice and could not apply boot to bums when necessary.
Burnsie would know about agression on the pitch: he and Larry Lloyd were a hard combo at the back for us. I have met Psycho a couple of times, Burnsie a few more. Stuart is a really nice bloke, very polite, whilst Burnsie is the same, but sounds like a Glaswegian hard man when he speaks.

I'm out.November 13, 2017 at 10:13 pm #13450Yeah we got him at the back end of his career but what a player he (still) was. I remember for a while he played left-half for us with Julian Dicks as wing-back just in front. Wouldn’t have wanted to be a right winger in those days.
Bloke was a legend for club(s)) and country, I remember for England against France when Basil Boli nutted him and cut his head open Pearce just shrugged, and took a free kick minutes later that rattled the bar. And of course the penalty vs Spain at Euro 96. For us I remember he played against Spurs in an FA Cup QF (that we eventually lost) – his ankle was swollen like a balloon from the previous week but he still played and stuck in a trademark free kick. Proper, proper player.
I must admit I think West Ham is as good as over – the move to Stratford has killed it for me and for many. Still my team, but breaks my heart when I see that ground on TV – not been to a home game since Palace last season and doubt I will go there again, just a few away games for me now when spare tickets crop up.
November 14, 2017 at 12:50 pm #13461I have a number of signed autobiographies of Forest players, mostly the Euro cup winners, but “Psycho: Stuart Pearce – the Autobiography“, is one I can read again and again. I recommend the book, it’s a true reflection of the man and the player. From his days playing for a local Sunday team as a Russian goalkeeper (it’s true, you have to read it!) to the end of a long career, his humour and combative spirit shines through.
One sentence in the book sums him up – “Some say that I would kick my own brother if it meant winning – they were right.” He also played one match when his brother was running the line, and took every opportunity to slag him off and insult him.
Pyscho is a one-off, a unique character. We loved the guy at the City Ground, even a management failure does not stop fans greeting him warmly whenever he visits the area.
