Quick question probably for @edps will a pi zero w in theory run anything that is designed for a model A.

Mil wants a way to monitor the temp and humidity in the green house. Thinking of using a pi and privateeyepi. But it for the joint sensor (Ordered £3) The tut only mentions model A and B. But I’m assuming that it was written prior to the zero.

The big difference between the various versions is the pin-out. This link sets out the differences. I had a hunt around for a better GPIO pin-out drawing as any one with half a brain would realize that there are multiple ways of taking a pin-out and applying it to the pi-zero board with all bar one being wrong! This article has the best diagrams and clearly shows the relationship of the 5 volt pins and the sd card!

The Pi Zero W is most like a Pi3 without the carp Broadcom sound system (no worries there you can always add a small i2s board that actually gives better sound if you add a half decent speaker).

For those who are not experienced at soldering (I know that does not apply to you), the biggest downside to the pi zero is the lack of a pre-built  gpio header. For such people I would recommend using a pi zero breakout board such as this. Although it does not get you out of soldering you will find it a lot easier to solder numerous wires to a breakout board (multiple connection points) rather than the more cramped pi zero board. (also easier to desolder when the inevitable mistakes are made!). There are hammer-in options for those averse to directly soldering to the pi but for some reason I find these even more scary!

I now personally prefer soldering connections directly to the pi as I find push-in header connections can be a bit wobbly.

          Cheers Ed.

However you haven’t seem me solder lol. My old man would do it all one handed while user to he other to puff on rollies. I need no h hands and a set of helping hands! I hough being a radio ham (he hated the term) In the uk 80s seemed like he had is iron out every day.

My old man died before the net toom off, I’d love to know what he thought of it. He was old school and prided himself at his morse being in the he high percentile, so I reckon he would hate the Internet and forums. He would love the forums for help etc, but would probably see them as lazy and to inclusive.

I always have a though he liked his exclusive club, that you had to put alot of effort into, just to talk to a random stanger. I really ally don’t know what is he would make of instant comms in real time, at ant time.

I reckon he would like pi’s and audinos, and hey would be right in his wheel house. I hough think it man never used a pc in his life, dismissed them as toys. Bit he died in 02 just before they went main stream. So he got would of had to jump on board at some point. he was only 42, she in theory had a good 30 left.

Also he could of been doing all my odd jobs I cba doing! There is many.
