Never trust an atom - they make up everything !
June 23, 2017 at 3:49 pm #9404At a quick glance they look good, how did you get the 12 month up front option?
June 23, 2017 at 4:47 pm #9405simples, call them and ask for a deal. i told em i was with ee at 19 quid a momff.
June 23, 2017 at 11:58 pm #9419What upload speeds do you get with them? Also download. But in this day and age, it’s a he uploaded that interests me more.
June 25, 2017 at 12:44 pm #9466Basically 13mb/s down and 1mb/s up.
June 25, 2017 at 12:59 pm #9467What are you uploading Duke out of interest? I can only think of Flickr, BAck-up and Sync, and sometimes slingbox streaming – never paid too much notice to upload speed (mine is about 7) – just interested why it might be more significant to you? Only being nosey!
June 25, 2017 at 4:37 pm #9468Photos mainly. But when they are 24mp Raw files (40 to 50meg), and you have a few hundred, it’s takes an age
I’m really spoilt, its a 1st world issue I know, but when I got 80down 20 up, it was so good I never noticed it. When my Internet contract lapsed, I decided to drop down to the 40/1 package, the one up was hugely noticeable, the 40 not. I’d be happy with 40 down, but the 1 was a bottleneck. So I rang up and upgraded back to my 80/20.
I now look at up more, simply because I think once you get to 20 down, for most it’s more than enough. I’m sure I’d rarely notice the drop from 80.
1st world issues.
June 25, 2017 at 5:08 pm #9470Fair enough – must admit when I use my Slingbox now, the uplink is the throttle – not an issue but with 4G mobile data I know it could go higher (at the watching end). Still waiting for BT Infinity 2, so stuck with 40/8 for now – as you say first world problem! Just got back from holiday where there was about 6/0.5 shared between 6 apartments…….not much fun but would have bitten your hand off for even that not so long ago.
June 25, 2017 at 6:12 pm #9473My first proper broadband connection at home was 0.5 down and 0.2 up using a USB ADSL modem. As they gave me a static IP address I setup my own FTP server to access my files. Well fast. Not !
June 25, 2017 at 8:01 pm #9474Shame. I could never live with 1 Mbit/s upload now.
June 25, 2017 at 10:32 pm #9475I have never forgotten the huge, 5 star hotel in München where we spent the last 3 nights after a Danube cruise in 2015. Right in the middle of (supposedly) the most technologically advanced city in Germany. A hotel used by Etihad Airways staff, you could see pilots and cabin crew entering and leaving all the time. Business people, huge limo’s, Porsches, a Ferrari or two and some of the most expensive Merc’s. One evening there was even an old US Cord roadster, I could hardly believe it.
And the WiFi was 0.5 Mbps DOWN! Plus we had to pay for it, and the TV if we wanted anything other than the BBC and local News channels. I told the Desk Staff (in my best Deutsche Spräche), that even the smallest B&B in the UK has FREE WiFi and usually Freeview TV. I was not impressed and I let them know it.

I'm out.June 25, 2017 at 11:39 pm #9476Hotel Wi-Fi is almost always terrible, and until very recently, it was almost always a chargeable service (I’ve been to a few recently where, unexpectedly, it was free, so things are changing).
June 26, 2017 at 8:49 am #9488I think that some of the budget ones (Premier Inn or Travelodge) have switched to a Freemium model. One of them, you get 15 or 30 minutes IIRC and then you have to pay, whilst the other one offers free wifi for your stay, but you can upgrade to Premium faster version. When I stayed in Germany a few years ago, it was similar, but when I went to Amsterdam and Berlin in May, there was no charge (and it was reasonable speed).

June 26, 2017 at 11:52 am #9490Thr premier inn give you free “unlimited” wifi, but it’s very slow, it’s ment for email and very light be browsing. Iirc it’s a tenner to get get quick enough BB for media etc.
Ive notice over the last year, that it’s rare that you can’t get a 4g or even guick enough 3g to watch media.
This weekend I was away and before we come home I watched the f1 on my phone over 4g. In truth I had a gang over and didn’t want to drive. So it’s rare now I have to stump up for the extra BB.
Alot of the “posher” hotels, have had a slap on the wrist over the years for actively blocking 3/4g, and trying to make customers pay their fee for quick Internet. (it was never just a tenner), but now they can’t do that, so in theory they will need to bring their BB prices down.
