I played with this for local routes and it looks good.

I’m sorry to say I’ll never make practical use of it, even for hiking, but it looks pretty useful.

My Mrs is a coach for the local women’s running club and uses Plotaroute

I’ve used it myself when looking at lockdown strolls around the neighbourhood.  The Autoplot has options for car, bike or walking. You click on your start point, then the next way point and so on, and it plots the best route to get between them. The map is as up-to-date as it could be with the new estates going up around here all marked and what roads are in place shown.

I hardly ever planned my routes when on a long ride.

Had certain towns /villages to aim for if there was anything of interest there but that was it.

          I preffered just wandering.

The ‘brouter’ app has a few little gimmicks that make it more than just a routing map. Its use of OpenStreetMap means that it is possible to switch on Hiking trails, it also works out how much energy/km will be burnt for each route section and a nice little route elevation pop-up.

If I did not confine my walking to canal tow-paths I’d probably be tempted to use the ‘energy burn’ in reverse and look for the routes that offered less of a cardiac challenge!

The route below is one I used to cycle as a teenager – it would probably kill me now!
