I was last there in ’98, in my second Motability lease: a Corsa 1.4 automatic. We stayed in the shadow of the Tor, in a cottage on the Levels. Beautiful area, but what we had not known about was the winter floods. All drained away, but the track leading to the cottage had sunk, leaving the centre stones high. Scraped the Corsa’s bum a few times, when I returned home I asked the Vauxhall dealer to check it out. No problems, but the sump and gearbox casing had been scraped. That ’98 Corsa was the hardest ride I have experienced, glad to change it, for a Nissan Almera 1.8. Which was a better car than the motoring media gave credit to at the time. Charlie the dog loved it!
