I see on the oculus web site that they are doing a summer special price bundle.
I’m not convinced it represents a good value even with the 7 games?
July 11, 2017 at 4:05 pm #10079There is an Ars report on the price drop which is worded in a way that suggests the taint of a fire sale in their pricing. I think Oculus may come to regret not having an open platform as they do not seem to be wooing many developers to their stable. Without devs it just becomes a large expensive fugly eyeshade. I must admit I have not been in the least tempted, nor has anyone else in my friends or my family’s circle. Without a killer app/game it is a dead duck!
If you read through the comments section it appears that the Vive has an edge.
July 11, 2017 at 7:59 pm #10088The killer app/need is the key. I never ‘got’ the VR thing. Not as a consumer item, professional space yes consumer no. Very much like smart watches, outside of fitness, I can’t see the point. And the market seems to agree, the smart watch world has been quiet for a while.
One of the bigger AR companies closed it doors to last week, can’t recall its name, they was on twit about two years ago with a polished working unit, but with closed source and high costs, it never took off as a product.
I can’t see oculus shutting down, I think Facebook own them, but I can see them eventually closing the consumer side down. Medical and space industry would be a fit, to mature the product.
That is unless that killer feature turns up. Then I’ll be first in line.
July 12, 2017 at 8:29 pm #10129I see fallout 4 is going VR but its gonna cost you.
July 12, 2017 at 8:35 pm #10130Tbh I have looked at the released clips and I was not impressed with the ‘soft focus’ effect on all the scenes. It looked like it had been rendered with a film of Vaseline over the lens, but I guess that is an accurate representation of the much lower resolution of the Oculus headset.
July 14, 2017 at 7:42 am #10182Oculus recently commented on their use of developers being tied to Oculus.
Revive’s Patreon for the HTC/Steam might be a game changer that could affect the way Oculus does business.

July 14, 2017 at 3:07 pm #10194Get your teeth into this Ars report of the Oculus ‘Pacific, Keith.
July 14, 2017 at 7:35 pm #10201That looks good. Obviously I would like to see an oled display.
