Today’s the day

Cheers
JohnOctober 25, 2018 at 8:18 am #27518I must admit that it does seem iniquitous that prominant IRA members have been effectively absolved from their terrorist acts, but British Servicemen have not receive a similar absolution for anything they may, or may not, have done in the heat of the moment.
In other words, once a terrorist, always forgiven; however try to be on the right side and do the right thing and ‘no good action goes unpunished‘. See how anyone defending inside their house from an intruder is first assumed to be a criminal, until pressure causes that stance to relax.

October 25, 2018 at 3:36 pm #27528Thanks guys, you all rock and I may get perilously close to shock, but all my posts come from an honest place where sometimes erroneous opinions live!?
I now am back on ADSL with speeds much reduced from the 11Mbps I had with the FTTC that BT screwed up by installing a new cabinet, then neglecting to carry out Fibre capacity needed for a large village which is rapidly getting larger. Then completely cutting lines to several homes, including my own: ?
The situation regrading servicemen serving in N.I. is very close to my heart and my own time there, from the early ’69 start to my last tour. I cannot say much more, because the barstewards are currently close to breathing upon my own neck, according to an old contact, who uses no electronic means of contact. This government needs to do something legal and definite, instead of using weasel media words which are easily denied later. We talked the talk and walked the walk in defence of a part of the UK, whilst taking action under Active Service conditions, but never being paid Active Service pay. Governments sent us there and continued to move the goalposts while we were served, almost monthly. Successive governments continue to change the positions of those goalposts. Meanwhile, the real criminals were freed by the worst PM of modern times, with an eye on pleasing the USA and wishing to improve his CV by adding “Peacemaker” to his accomplishments. Incidentally, those of us with several Tours accomplished, did not suffer from PTSD, apart from a small minority who had no label for it then and suffered silently. I have no anti-PC beef against PTSD, know it is genuine, but also genuinely know that some claim it falsely.
The people making the most of this situation, are the liberal do-gooders masquerading as lawyers. They don’t give a damn about us oldpharts who mostly tried to do our best in a broken, impossible part of the UK, which was then and is still: a part of the UK. For those of us always faced with the plea from the South, “Give us back our Six Counties” – Have ’em! You will want to hand it back within weeks, because your Security Forces won’t be able to handle it, even to the precarious level of public ‘safety’ that ours managed to achieve.
There I must step off my Soapbox until the next Rant.???
Health continues to improve, weight and BMI stabilised and actually replaced 2.2 Kg over last 2 weeks. Chemo still makes me ill after a couple of days, but feeling better atm. Weather here in East Lindsey unbelievably good for October, but freezing returns at weekend apparently. Here are some pic’s from last week.
This is me and the defender of our kitchen window, fattening up on the bugs which try to enter:

Taken from outside, hence reflections upon myself and shirt. Additional facial hair is down to shaving accident and Chemo causing bleeding to resist stopping. Now I like it, so does daughter and family, SWMBO outvoted.??
Huge bee on bungalow front wall was a suspected Queen, so I drove it away without harming it. Keeping the Guard Spider though, hoping she hibernates in the fascia for next year.

Good luck and Good health to all!

October 25, 2018 at 4:46 pm #27536Bob, what I suspect we all feel is that one of the sparks to light our fire has been missing from our ‘camp fire’ gathering, so the fire has reduced. Welcome back, you have been missed.
October 25, 2018 at 5:15 pm #27537Hi Bob – who is that ugly barsteward in the first photo? lol.
Nice to see you back. Got any shares in BT?

October 25, 2018 at 7:41 pm #27541It sounds as though both you and the hair are doing very well on the chemo diet. It must be something different but I think that every course is tailored to the issue it treats. My wife dealt with the hair issue with a brush and dustpan though since the chemo ended it has started to think about making a limited appearance. The latest twist is that her blood count has dropped into the low orders so she will need a transfusion, or rather an infusion before her 6 hour operation.
A close relation was expected to move into a supported/assisted living situation in good time but a key worker went on holiday just adding more grit to those works.
See what I meant in BL’s thread about having plans, only for the ‘life shredder’ to take them in hand and laugh in your face. Keep smiling, by the way your big bee might be a queen, but I have seen a number of huge bees this year, the first one was at the end of January and I have seen them quit often since then, I think they might be one of our UK residents such as the solitary bee – the name could well be wrong. Seeing them at work while snow lay about the place was surreal.

It’s just my pet spider, Dwynne. She is lovely when seen close up and appreciates the warm home.? Scampers down the window to meet me now. I have a thing for spiders which eat up the bugs that try to invade my home, got several orb spiders in the utility room which has two doors to the back and front. SWMBO makes me clear them out occasionally, but I always leave at least one hidden, they come back.
If I had shares in BT, I would have got rid weeks ago: check it out: –
Richard, the hair shown is facial. I have a huge Solar Panel on my head now and more falling daily. Side hair still growing, as is ear and nasal stuff, also body hair to maintain my Neanderthal image.?? I also needed a two-pack transfusion two weeks ago, was extremely anaemic. That has gone a long way to making me feel better. Apparently this is a normal progression for most Chemo patients. As the Clinical Head nurse says, “Well it’s a poison; we are poisoning you in order to kill a greater poison.” Wow, thanks lady, TMI.
I sincerely hope that all goes well for your wife, wishing you and family all the best in your separate ordeals.
Dave, in considering the WiFi aspect – we have no coverage in the village, nor for several miles down the A16, where my son and daughter are similarly affected in their village. My WiFi comes via the net and the EE Brightbox that JayCeeDee kindly sent me and it works very well: amazed that I have the only 4G service in the village.

Talking chemo (after my heart attack) I am finally going for my Bowel Cancer Screening I last put off for her chemo/radio.
Also due to the chemo injections affecting her heart (now under the heart consultant and 3 tablets) they have stopped her chemo.
Cheers
JohnOctober 26, 2018 at 2:15 pm #27576That is a mix of good and worse news JB, I wish you all the very best in dealing with you and your other half’s issues. Glad you are taking bowel cancer screening: both SWMBO and I take the packs every year.”So far So good” as the man said, passing each floor as he fell from the 17th floor balcony…?
Along with the chemo, I have screening via a camera through the neck-hole for Barrett’s Oesophagus* and another through the Southern hole for other issues, a CT and possible MRI scan later next month. Wifey has growing knee and other hip pain which needs fixing soon. Whoever first said ‘It never rains but it pours‘ was unaware of the hurricanes that happen to some of us oldpharts!
Good luck and good health mate!

I'm out.November 12, 2018 at 8:06 pm #28179Bob, I was just listening to aMoody Blues track and remembered your visit to Skeggy for the concert.
How did it go??
We were all so glad you were OK we forgot to ask!!
November 12, 2018 at 8:58 pm #28185It was much, much better than I expected JCD. There were two former band members, not originals, but guys who played with them later for many years around the world. It was about as close as you can get to the sound and it was faithfully reproduced, I really enjoyed it. My missus only liked “Go Now” and the War of the World songs from Justin Hayward, but she is now a convert. That’s because their music, done properly live, sounds better than on CD or vinyl. Check them out:
The venue is Thoresby Hall in my old Nottinghamshire county, but they are touring again in February 2019. Thoresby is a very nice place to stay, a bit pricey but very comfortable.
I have always loved the Moody’s, they were so much different from anyone else. Going to see these guys on Saturday:
I particularly like Chris Farlowe, whom I met years ago at a Stones concert and is, IMO, the best of British Blues artists. Met Mike Pender about 25 years ago after a concert in another Notts venue about 5 miles from my village, after the Searchers had broken up and he was attempting to reform the band with other musicians. He signed a vinyl album for me. Amen Corner good basic Blues, SWB Jeans and Fourmost are of course original Merseybeat, same guys and still good last time I saw them. Today’s Searchers are really getting on now: John McNally (Lead guitar) is well over 70 now. I knew him through his cousin in the AAC, also named John, also played in an amateur band and I sang. The Germans liked us, we had a good few bookings, mainly because I talked my way into them.??
They are all getting on in years now. Aren’t we all?
