Just bought this, pick up tomorrow: https://tinyurl.com/h97kvq9
I know it’s not all singing and dancing, does not have all the bells and whistles, but it will do for me at that price. It’s Android 6 and all I need as a cheap replacement for my cannibalised Hudl2, which has reached the point of no return: I built it from 3 devices and it has worked for a while, but yesterday it became an ex-parrot. All I need is an e-book reader, emails, FB and a few bits & pieces. Chepest I could find it, Amazon want more, some want £129 just for the tablet.
I actually got 3 Hudl2’s working for neighbours and theirs are still OK. 🙁 Word does get around and a neighbour has given me an original Hudl1 to take a look at. Asked what happened and she said that she put the charger cable in before going to bed and the screen lit up like daylight. She was frightened to touch it, so left it like that. Next morning it was dead, no charge. I looked at the charger port – “Did you connect it in the dark?” -“Yes, why?” – “Because the port is pushed in and the pins are bent.”
As there is no charge in the Hudl, I cannot get into it. The cable will not connect, there is nothing to connect to. I cannot find a way to strip the thing, as I could with the Hudl2. She ignored my advice when she originally bought it, to buy an SD card and an external backup. I always tell people who ask (but never volunteer the information) – if you have just one device and nothing else, how can you save your photos, emails, etc., when you have nothing to back up with?
They then look for a Miracle Worker, but I missed that course. :negative:

I'm out.February 2, 2017 at 2:49 pm #3228The original Hudl is easy to get into, and a new charger board, with USB port, costs a couple of quid. It’s a fifteen-minute job. Do a Google and you’ll soon find a tutorial.

February 2, 2017 at 3:00 pm #3232Thanks Jason, looking into that. The problem is the state of my hands, with the Rheumatoid they don’t work like they used to. But if I can get it working I would be pleased, the neighbour is a very nice lady on her own who will help anyone.
Lee, is it worth the hassle? Maybe go to Cemax, ebay or Gumtree for a cheap used tablet to play with? Plenty on Gumtree, I was looking this morning for a mate.

February 3, 2017 at 11:44 pm #3301Never heard of the table before. It’s amazing the most random things that have such a community behind them.
Just think of a niche, and there is a community dedicated to it somewhere on the web. This is a prime example of why forums will never die, no matter how good and large the like of Facebook gets. Forums serve dedicated communities better.
Some cools stuff around that table if you click some links. Apparently idea made a change on the later models, and only the top 3″ are solid plastic, so if you want Marple racks you have to trim the bottom of the leg off and insert a piece of wood in. Also they do a double one called the coffee table Lack, that is just long enough to put to sets in, for the ultimate geek lounge set up. I’d image in it would work well as a hearer in the winter months
Joking aside, some clever cheapo, my favourite kind, sussed this out, and I love ikea ran with it. It seems to have a cult following.
Random stuff I look at when the misses is asleep. Suppose it’s better than porn! But pretty sad when my birthday falls on a Friday night and I’m sat in looking at plastic chairs.
