Thanks Duke
They’re mainly from a mobile and it’s no trouble to use BT, it was just to say BT is on, nerby sharing says not connected.
Cheers
JohnOctober 30, 2019 at 11:20 am #37869If its not connected, I’d say that was a slight issue!
It’s been years since I shared anything via bt, post smart phone, so 2005/6 ish. As far as I can remeber it wasnt that quick. May of changed now.
October 30, 2019 at 5:48 pm #37873It’s just impossible to write down a series of instructions, there’s just too many steps and variables involved. It’s not a tick box affair and that’s why apps like One Drive and DropBox were created because they are. You need to read up on the basics of windows networking and try things. First of all you must be on a private network and both devices must have network sharing turned on. If they’re not anything you attempt will fail. Bluetooth is a world of pain all on it’s own.
If it’s for sharing photos then Google Photos is what you want. Your new photos downloaded from a camera to a PC can be set to automatically upload in the background and Android phones do this by default. I believe One Drive can do this now too, but Google Photos can be viewed from anywhere by just logging in to a browser.
This is exactly what I do on holiday. My tablet has an app from my camera manufacturer that lets me download what photos I want, manipulate the size for FB etc., and then when Google Photos sees it’s on the hotel WiFi up they go.
October 30, 2019 at 6:28 pm #37875Photos is just an example to say BT is on. I did notice rig 1 is private rig 2 is on public. I have tried to change it within Windows.
I do recall when setting up Windows I selected not to share, so maybe that’s the problem.
Too much hastle to start again, to use one drive dropbox is uploadoading and drains the rig and when needed it’s downloading, I have stuff on dropbox, at one time I lost it so I don’t trust it. Also I like to keep my eye on stuff, can’t be done up there.
I recently ordered a new USB drive to use for sharing and storing.
Cheers

The above link shows how to enable network discovery on W10 but it won’t work if your network type is set to public so there is a link at the bottom that shows ways of changing your network type. I recommend the power shell method.
October 30, 2019 at 7:26 pm #37879I linked that back to front 😁 The link takes you to network type changing with a link at the bottom to enabling network discovery.
October 30, 2019 at 8:07 pm #37882I just tried this myself and its simpler to get to advanced sharing settings from Network and Internet under settings (The cog icon on the start menu).
While you are at it you should have a look at the ALL networks settings if you want to enable public folder and media sharing.
October 30, 2019 at 8:24 pm #37883Just discovered you can now change your network profile from public to private with change connection status under Network and Internet 😁
October 30, 2019 at 9:09 pm #37884I just looked up the name of the network discovery service and there are two of them, link-layer topology discovery responder and link-layer topology mapper. Both services must be installed and active on all network adapters you use, you can check under the adapters properties page, while you are there you can check that client for microsoft networks and file and printer sharing are on too.
