What are peoples preference?

I’ve decided that it might be worth me looking into different music streaming services. I’ve been a member of Spotify in the past and not been to impressed. I’m trailing Google Play Music at the minute with two months free trial as the benefit with that one is that I can save my own music to it (which is what annoyed me with Spotify, where some songs would be able to be streamed and others in the same album wouldn’t for whatever licensing reason!) Apple Music we have at work and it’s OK but the creating a random playlist from an artist or album is now a bit of pain (though I guess they now call it a “station” rather than genius playlist).

 

Though I made the mistake of visiting the Google Activity page. I think I may have to switch to using Firefox

At this rate, I may have to stick with just listening to the 11,000 songs I have!

Spotify for me. You can get the full year Premium well below RRP via Ebay. Best thing for me is the third party sites where you can find playlists and not have the aggro of deciding what to listen to. My Roberts Radio and Denon Amp also have spotify integration so I can play through those from my phone/tablet/laptop.

I use Google Music (free) occasionally – I did the 4 month 99p trial of the paid version but never used it once.

I have Amazon Prime Music (not the unlimited) and that is fine, use it mainly to download full albums on to the phone. Not an Apple man (aside from work iPad) so can’t comment there.

Even the free Spotify is pretty good, the up-front advert followed by 30 mins ad-free is a good approach. But premium – especially via Ebay is great value I think.

I don’t do music as such, but find Spotify is probably the best free player.  Google music if you pay or free if you have large collections of your own music.

Never tried apple music.

I think the answer depends on how you want to listen, and personal preference to ui. I like Spotifys ui the best.

I buy CDs second hand, rip them and upload to Play music. I also have prime music which is useful for trying out music before spending out.

Most folks I know use spotify, paid or free.

I just use groove, its not the best but it keeps my bill with MS office and what ever other subscriptions I have with them. It has all the music I like, works well on android and the web and 10 as it happens. A bit of Jimmy Nail and many other tunes so I am happy.

I have spoken here before about my ongoing efforts to get all my CD & Vinyl collection organised, onto the NAS and backed up. I have literally hundreds of 1,000’s of tracks, it will take me until the end of this year to finish, because I do like to suddenly up sticks and leg to a beach or some other spot we love.

The only downloads I have are a few albums and selected tracks from Amazon music, although I have begun choosing certain albums that are favourites and buying the CD’s in DSD Remastered form. That is one area where I have to admit, that the very best record deck and audio equipment, could not compete.

I have so much music that I have to be sorely tempted to buy anything “new”. I am looking for one vinyl LP for a band I sang with in the very early 60’s. They were originally “The Stormcats” and morphed into “The Mansfields” which tells you where the group (a band in prehistoric times) members hailed from. Both band names have been appropriated by others, after the originals broke up as I gradually faded out in’63 and ’64 then joined the Army. I wanted to do more Blues and R’n’B, lead guitar (rich kid) wanted to do carp like Ricky Nelson & Bobby Vee. We recorded one LP on which I sang a S**t hot version of Johnny Kidd singing “Shakin’ All Over” and some Chuck Berry/Stones stuff. The problem is that I cannot remember the LP Title!

I cudda bin famous, me… B-)

Yes but I am missing from that line up: I left in early ’64 after a disgreement over dress (did not like the Penguin Look) and the stuff they were beginning to play. As I said, I preferred Blues & R&B. The others went on to become The Mansfields. He couldn’t compete: not a boast, but I had a voice, he didn’t. His parents’ money bought the band’s instruments and transport. They became Johnny Gold & The Sovereigns for a bit, then folded. I was an unreconstructed Rocker and in my teenage years I was also quite violent. I chinned ‘Johnny Gold’ and walked out.The Nottinghamshire music scene in the Sixties was packed with aspiring groups. Shane Fenton and the Fentones (later Alvin Stardust) used to practice in his Aunt’s Chip Shop in our village when it was closed. His real name was Bernard Jewry. Yes, really. Before national fame, he would play Mansfield Palais, dyed blonde hair with a purple streak. He was beaten up there in the very early 60’s for dating a the wife of a local miner. Mansfield was a hard place, still is.

I also sang in the Army, some mates and I in Germany formed a band and a mobile disco. One of us was a cousin of John McNally from The Searchers, also called John. He and another were posted out, the DJ bought his discharge and became a truckie, and a millionaire twice, twice bankrupted and jailed – last I heard an alcoholic. The whole thing had fallen apart by the time the Army got on our case and told us to stop performing. We made quite a few beer vouchers out of it and had a female following.

I still have a voice! (Well my 11 yo gdaughter thinks so) Blimey, I had an ‘interesting’ life! :wacko:  :bye:
