Ok, so my 24inch having died after years of service, I’m using a 21inch monitor. I’ve just started looking at freesync monitors, although they still cost a little more. Can anyone reccommend a good 24+ inch monitor, under £200, that’s good for gaming (and watching films etc)? Really not fussed with whistles and bells, just the best possible image and refresh rate – performance over style everyday. I think 24inch seems to be the most affordable range, although if there’s a good 27inch I can afford that would be amazing…
April 3, 2017 at 4:02 pm #5805I had the same monitor for years and recently bought LG 29UC97C-B – 29″ Full HD LED ULTRAWIDE Curved Monitor 2560 x 1080. I am so pleased with it. I don’t know much about monitors and which ones are good and which are not but a monitor that is curved and ultra wide is just awesome. For gaming and everything else. I will never go back to a monitor that is flat and not ultra wide.
April 3, 2017 at 4:49 pm #5808I would certainly echo going for a larger monitor. For me a 28 inch monitor at arms length results in the screen edges just being on the peripheral vision fade point. Ideal for games such as Skyrim or Witcher.
Colour and resolution are personal preferences and a trade off with price. Colour was and is extremely important to me so I went for a full 4K monitor. There may be better spec/price combos now but at the time the Asus Pb279Q hit all the targets for me. (Pre Brexit it was a LOT cheaper too!)
The downside to 4K is of course that you may well have to buy a new GPU to get all the benefits. (They will still work at lower resolutions/fps however).
April 4, 2017 at 8:19 pm #5842As much as I’d like to, I just don’t have the budget for a bigger monitor. That Asus is over £600 which is more than half my budget for a complete PC… Of course, I could just stick with the 21inch for some time, until I can afford a bigger monitor.
2nd issue around it is I’m looking at the R5 1600 CPU and waiting for the RX500 series of GPUs, with the aim of getting an RX580. I can’t go too big a monitor as I can only afford one GPU for the time being!
April 4, 2017 at 10:11 pm #5849I love my Samsung 27″ monitor, and it hasn’t burst into flames, so always a good sign.
Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.
