Done 4 now without any real problem although one oldish laptop took about 3 hours.
May 2, 2018 at 5:03 pm #20309My/our slowest portable took a bit over 30 minutes though probably not as much as 45 minutes, though the download and preparation background task was not at all rapid.
None of them had any real problems other than having to restart a number of services.
May 2, 2018 at 6:11 pm #20314Just done 2 x ancient Intel DQ45CB LGA 775s – still no problems.
Never trust an atom - they make up everything !
May 2, 2018 at 6:22 pm #20316First one here on the slowest laptop I’ve got! (1.5Ghz Celeron U with a spinner) Took all afternoon but all OK so far.
Kaspersky didn’t like it at first but has sorted itself now.
May 2, 2018 at 6:40 pm #20318My little Dell 3050 is yet to have it, must drag out my X220 and see what the score is there.
May 2, 2018 at 6:53 pm #20321Mine’s tried it 3 times today and not succeeded in completing. After the restart it all opens as per, but the File Explorer icon in the Taskbar is underlined and hovering over it gives a Microsoft Account ( Not responding ) thumbnail window.:(
Hit Winver and it shows it’s still on 1709 (16299.371 ).
May 2, 2018 at 6:55 pm #20322Went ok but apps and drivers suffering.
Games related and I’m working on it.
May 3, 2018 at 8:42 pm #20344X220 won’t have it, keeps failing. Bored after 2 hours of ‘fun’. I’ll try again tomorrow, maybe. MIght just nuke it and do a fresh install with the latest version.
May 3, 2018 at 8:46 pm #20345Done two X220s PM – all OK. Nuke is never a bad thing….in fact its a good thing….got to do it ont he PC my youngest has his piano (MIDI) hooked up to….as it won’t update (for a few months)……got to remember where all the disks and licences are for the music software. Then one of those cheap SSDs is going in.
May 4, 2018 at 6:50 am #20347After two days of frustration tweaking various settings I gave up and ‘refreshed’ Windows. Luckily I use VMs so the impact is minimal.
I never managed to figure out what was causing the issue but I suspect the Asus mobo AI as that was an area I forgot to tweak. The Asus utility had some fairly low level drivers and a Bios utility so maybe it is the main candidate for suspicions.
May 4, 2018 at 9:45 am #20350Now done all 10 of my machines without a problem so very happy with the update system.
May 4, 2018 at 7:01 pm #20371Done mine all seem to go well. I didn’t times the desk tops, but my main lappy, an old x220 thinkpad, took about 40mins.
I hit go just before the footy kicked off, and noticed it wad ready for a re boot just before halftime.
May 5, 2018 at 11:57 am #20383Well Today 05/05 my PC is working properly.
The new update had a thing going with all drives other than C.
This bit is speculative, but I recon windows messed around with the ata drivers so most of my apps on other drives did not work or bsod the system.
Today all is ok but all apps now need when launched eula clicked x1.
strange when I click on update history, it is clear, nothing. Hmm?
May 5, 2018 at 1:09 pm #20389Just a heads up in case any of you run into it:
May 5, 2018 at 6:52 pm #20396I did two today without too many issues except a couple of forced power cycling issues. I have come to the conclusion that the update goes in at bios level so if you have programs such as bios updaters etc then it may well pay to remove them first. It also does not like Fences 3 unless it has been updated.
May 5, 2018 at 6:53 pm #20397Just had another go, after typing regsvr32 wups2.dll /s into an admin powershell session, rebooted, check for updates, all went well. Took about an hour and a half, it rebooted about 4 times to my knowledge, could have been a lot more.
May 6, 2018 at 6:43 pm #20412That’s strange pm, my x220 (i5 not sure what) took just under 45mins and had one reboot.
Windows is a mystery to even itself I think.
May 6, 2018 at 7:15 pm #20413If you count the down loading and the initial installing it does take a longish time. If you start the timing from the ‘do it now’ stage three machines took up to 30 minutes and the slowest one took about 40 minutes and yes, three or four reboots happened with all of my machines.
May 6, 2018 at 7:24 pm #20415Steve ,it’s mine .It’s going to be odd!
May 6, 2018 at 9:00 pm #20418I updated both of mine today, the startup seems to have gone really slow? a little like the old days. I loved Windows 10 statup as it was fast, not so much now.
Cheers
