My lovely missus has taken pity on the way I have to remove half the contents of my crappy, overfull, deformed plastic toolbox to get at what lies beneath. She has ordered me a 9 – drawer steel cab from Machine Mart. I knew there was a reason I was keeping her around…

Flowers tomorrow, I think. She has quite enough chocolate in the fridge!

Always wanted something like that, no need for it as I don’t have that many tools anymore. No room for one either.

Not so sure why you always wanted chocolate in the fridge. I just go to the shop ………… Oh, wait, I understand now.

I wish my misses was like yours Bob, I have multiple plastic tool boxes to rummage through to find the needed tool. I can keep dreaming. Its not like I haven’t been dropping any hints for the last god knows how many years

Bob – it’s a good job she didn’t have the local SnapOn agent’s number – you’d have been on egg and beans on toast for the next year, and what that would produce in your stoma bag doesn’t bear thinking about!!??

Mark – I think that’s going to be one of those presents you buy yourself – cuts out the justification argument.??

You would probably like my shed as I have two sets of spanners, several socket sets & various other tools mounted on a wall board. Everyone who enters for the first time goes Wow! Not seen a shed this tidy & well laid out before.

One of the benefits of Aldi & Lidl is the good quality, well priced, Chrome vanadium spanner sets that they offer from time to time. Not that I use them for the car much these days, more the bike or general DIY.

Same here, loads of plastic boxes. I’d love a better set up. Congrats.

I had the job lot “although you can never have everything” where snap-on, Mac and Draper are concerned. I had the stack-able, rolling tool chests, cupboards and so on mainly from snap-on although one may of been Mac. Filled with all the airtools, small screwdrivers, big screwdrivers, stumpy spanners “My favourite” and another favourite were my ring ratchet  spanners. There were spanners in there that were more like weapons. The there was the sockets of all sorts of varying sizes and use, impact, standard, short and long, 1/2 and 3/4 and 1/4 plus all the extensions and knuckle joints. I wont even start on pliers, grips, moles and so on. Then there was specialist tools for doing particular jobs on particular cars. Some electrical gear for small electrical work. Oh, and I cant forget my collection of tapping sticks:) I doubt one socket was less than than £8 minimum.

Then I let my brother borrow them all, never to be seen again.! I dont need them tools now but I would like to build a collection up again. I’ll never go the route of paying the snapon or mac guy weekly again for the privilege though.

This is approximately what I had as a workshop foreman:

Cost me a bomb to buy and set up, but I knew the boss/mate was paying for 50%.

The boss’s youngest son and I got along well, because he became a very good mech under my tutelage. His two elder brothers were Body men and very skilled too. at one time, that garage was my life: (as SWMBO never failed to tell me!) I still remember those days with great pleasure, a solid working life.

When I became disabled and out of the Trade, I sold the lot to my 3x great- (step) nephews for £500. Daft? No, they looked after us both for a long time, even after we got back on our feet they still ask if we want anything. Good, honest, hard working men.
