What does it matter who was here first? We are all now basically  mongrels, of 1000s of years of invasion and occupation.

It’s said we all come from some African tribe originally,  so deep down we are all the same. We have just been manipulate into not trusting our neighbours.

Artificial boarders are just a political way of keeping people afraid of what’s over the “fence”.  keeping the ruling class in a job. We should knock the fences down, have the freedom of movement, and the freedom for whoever to trade with whomever. Have freedom!

      Nice dream anyhow.

@Steve If you are interested in human history the latest finds of old bones seem to show that ‘real’ humans evolved in Eastern Europe not in Africa (African finds are too ape-like in comparison). My personal guess is the bit of the Arabian Gulf between the Arabian peninsula, India  ans maybe Africa which has become submerged under the sea. Link. If correct it also has the interesting effect of combining together many of the religious myths (Bible and Hindu etc) that are shared by regions on its boundary.

You are jumping far too quickly on the theory sounding the latest bones.

What about the DNA evidence for Out of Africa?

Its all in the age and shape of the bones and their proximity to modern humans. Out of Greece looks like it could be a real contender, but would of course upset a lot of people who have pinned their careers on a different finding. link. If ‘Out of Greece’ holds up it will be a bit like finding out that Dark Matter is nothing but imaginary Dirty Fairy Dust.

DNA evidence on its own is subject to interpretation. We do for example share much of the DNA of mice, there are only 300 or so genes that are different but no-one knows which are the bits that are really important in making us ‘human’.

The point wasn’t to start a debate weather we started out in Eastern  EU or africa (though very Interesting ed),  for this case, wherever we are from we are all from there, so the point still stands.

Atm ed, I’ll go with the dna. But I’ll look into the bone theory, as it does intrest me alot.

I’ll make my Old Phart confession. I previously mentally lumped Ariana Grande into the usual ‘teenie booper airhead’ category. I recant, she isn’t!

The last few weeks have demonstrated to me (and I’m sure others) tha she is an extremely courageous, well educated articulate young woman who has displayed amazing maturity and sensitivity in her dealings with both the direct victims of the attack and the others who although not directly hurt were suddenly faced with just how fragile was their grip on life. Last night’s concert I’m sure helped a lot of them face up to the world again.

This was not a PR stunt. I’ve been involved in a number so I can now smell a PR stunt a mile away. This was a heartfelt emotional response from the artiste directly at the centre of the atrocities.

                Well done Ariana!

There is always a human being behind the mike, the performance and the lights. I met Keith Richards twice and was pleasantly surprised by his obvious intelligence. Despite a brief first meeting and a gap of 4 years, he remembered me instantly the second time, which was a longer conversation about – prehistory! One of his very dry comments, was that he believed in reincarnation, because he was certain that he had seen himself and Mick pictured in a prehistoric cave painting! I also have his autobigraphy, “Life” in which he was brutally honest about his life. But the best part of the convo, was a long talk about Blues music. A spliff was offered, gracefully declined.

On the subject of First Humans in the British Isles: has to be the Neanderthals, well before the last Ice Age began. They either died out or left as the ice advanced. Dwynne may be happy to present this as a case for Wales being the first home of Modern humans:

                  A very interesting read.

As I said in another posting string, I thought Ariana showed herself very well appearing genuine and willing to go out of her way to meet and greet her followers. Her music is not my music so I do not comment on that matter. I will say that I prefer music to be music not a ‘look at me parade’. I felt that hers has been a class act in many ways and not just a publicity show. Maybe I am wrong, but I thought she was a real person, recording shock and personal emotional impacts honestly. She must earn respect points for that.
