Just dropped it into a pc repair shop who said if they can’t fix it, no charge. if the only way to fix it is a new mobo then they recommended not to spend the money and they wouldn’t charge. Only if it is simpler like the OS would they sort it and charge me. So they will be playing around with the OS.
Are they right that the mobo would either have to be a used part that could have the same issue or a part from China and not worth buying?
September 24, 2019 at 1:43 pm #36944IF you can find one it will cost the earth. This can’t be seen as a PC with a monitor strapped on, it’s a big laptop. All the parts are specialist.
September 24, 2019 at 7:07 pm #36955Thanks all.
The PC shop said yes, it’s the mobo.
I’ll sell it on eBay as faulty and mention it could be the mobo. If i get anything for it that will help.
Now, as my son’s had thought they were getting their own PC i might get a cheap used laptop for their bedroom instead. It would be good to be touch screen but that might be asking a bit much.
Any suggestions?
Cheers all
September 24, 2019 at 7:43 pm #36956See the recent posts, there’s plenty of decent refurbs about depending on your budget.
I get a lot of mine from MicroDream but the last 3 have come from Amazons Renewed Guarantee scheme. One of which was from MD.
My own workhorse laptop is a refurbed T420, now 8 years old and still going like it was new. Well better, it now has an SSD 😀

Having a bit of a look around i found this on eBay, with 100% seller feedback
Refurbished Touch Screen Laptop Windows 10 Pro Lenovo Yogo Core i5-4300U 8Gb
£199, what do you think?
September 24, 2019 at 10:05 pm #36962I’ve not come across the Yogas. I believe you can bend them around and use them as tablets?
The specs are fine and it’s a Lenovo, if it’s the form factor you want then go for it.
September 24, 2019 at 10:10 pm #36963I think it’s that the specs are decent and it’s touch screen too. Not bad in price either.
September 25, 2019 at 7:05 am #36969My wife has a similar one that enables the touch screen to be detached and used as a stand-alone pad. Bit gimmicky imo as she has used it in this format only once. It is however very light which mattered to her.
September 25, 2019 at 11:19 am #36976Cheers ed. Not so much i would want that form factor but being touch screen sounds nice and for £199 i didn’t think I’d get much more for the money.
