If your significant other demands to go to see this film, then think twice, give them money to take a friend and meet them in the pub afterwards.

The best parts of La La Land are shown in the clips. The film itself is a film about the Media Industry and for the Media Industry, made by the Media Industry with all the messages and ‘insider’ stuff aimed at the Media Industry. I was conned into going and thought that it might be an enjoyable bit of froth – in the style of ‘Grease’ It wasn’t, it was really just very average in all respects with the dancing and dialogue not really up to snuff, quite boring in fact. Still, I’m just a mere male, so I expected my wife and her friends to point out the error of my ways. You could have knocked me down with a feather when they came out with the same opinions, and gave the film even lower ratings.

      You have been warned!

EdP, Don’t luvvie bash. It only attracts their attention. ?

As for my opinion. Watching the cast of Emmerdale Farm mince about on Children in Need was more enjoyable and a lot shorter. ?

They dropped the ‘farm’ out of the title about 25 years ago.

My 11 yo Gdaughter is going to see that tomorrow with several mates and an adult mum or two. If it is as bad as you say Ed, I know she will see through it. She is no ‘girly girl’ is our youngest: almost as tall as me now and her best mates are all boys. Lads who run, climb, generally get into mischief and do their best not to upset her! Her 20 yo cousin cannot understand her at all – never played with dolls, won’t wear pink, hates boy bands but loves granddad’s old rock music.

If she finds that film to be as bad as you say, I know what she will say – “Waste of money! Could have dowloaded a Game with that!”

Tbh it was not a BAD film, however I found that it totally failed to live up to the hype of all the various awards that it won. I am sure that if you work/worked in the media industry you would find things that resonated with you, but as an outsider I found it a yawn lacking the catchy music or dancing of other musicals.

Setting the storyline revolve around an arrogant self-centered Trad Jazz player’s angst in a disappearing audience did not make it something with wide audience appeal, and I could not for the life of me relate to the Jazz-Rock music which he apparently made highly successful (fat chance). I preferred his (poor) Trad Jazz. Without detracting from her acting award I thought the female lead’s part to be one-dimensional – a fault again of the script and storyline.

It is NOT a ‘girly’ film but neither is it one I can see having a lot of appeal to your grand-daughter.

Well Gdaughter did not see that one: picked her up earlier today, the group had a conference (that is, the kids did!) and decided “Lego Batman” would be a better option. Verdict: AWESOME! “Why did you all decide that?” asked granddad – “Because it looked like a silly, wimpy – adult movie!”

Out of the mouths of babes ….

I remember Trad Jazz Ed, the birth of that coincided with my discovery of Elvis, rock’n’roll, then The Stones. No contest, although I still have some Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk etc, somewhere amongst my vinyl collection. Today I am on the last lap of turning all my vast Presley collection into 2 digital sources. The rest will follow, hopefully before I fall from my perch… Listening to all the later Elvis stuff reminded me once again what a good voice he had.

Only one film I want to see this year but i’ll have to wait till DVD time, T2 Trainspotting. I never get excited by a film but this one I am so looking forward to it.

I see the americans have finaly got round to making a film about McDonalds, suprised it has taken them so long. I expect it to be full of the same old carp, heroics, cons, greed and over exaggerated and twisted Bull Stuff story line.

I can’t wait to see T2. Not enough to go the filks, so I’ll wait till it’s on a streaming server ice near me.

Also i want to see the star wars one that I think is on the fliks now. Again not enough to actually go out my way. I really liked the last one, except for one thing, the bigger Lukes return up so much, and he had a single line! Really bothered me.

Has grease been remade? I have never made it througb the original one!

The last picture I went to see, for me and not a Disney pixar, that was What Pets do(or similar title), was star was the clone wars, the last of the 3 that came out in the nasties. The older I got, the more I hate the cinema experiance. Why is it always so loud? I must be old before my time, but I’d rather watch on my couch with the remote at hand, on my old (over 10 yo) 5.1 surround sound. Preferably a bluray, but tbh a stream at a less bit rate is also more preferable that the cinema, with overpriced food, low quality screen, too loud sound and usually talking viewers.

God I’m older than my years.

Oh you can wait to get a dig back Lee, can’t you? –

I expect it to be full of the same old carp, heroics, cons, greed and over exaggerated and twisted Bull Stuff story line.” HUH? No idea what you mean! B-)

I expect the McD movie to be better than it appears, thanks to Michael Keaton taking the lead and Laura Dern playing his wife. These two are very good actors. Keaton was the best Batman, but he also appeared in some quality roles: Birdman,  Jackie Brown, Clean and Sober and a Minions voice over. Also plenty of utter krap, but I think he subcribes to the Michael Caine school of acting, quote from Caine: –

I started with the firm conviction that when I came to the end, I wanted to be regretting the things that I had done, not the things I hadn’t.

Says something about me I guess, that Minions is my favourite. Family rolls their eyes when Gdaughter and I watch that for the N’th time  and still laugh. :yahoo:
