Many will know I’m a long time Linux user, and can find my way around usually without a problem, but my most recent achievements please even me.
I have my main rig (Desktop system with a crap load of stuff inside the box, bore than capable for my 3D stuff etc), and I have an old, underpowered laptop. The laptop is tucked between stuff, with nothing more plugged in than an ethernet cable and a monitor mounted to the desk on a hydraulic arm.
Now, thanks to the wonders of WoL, when I power my desktop up, it turns the laptop on. Whn I shutdown the desktop, thanks to ssh, the laptop gets shutdown. Whilst it’s running, thanks to synergy, it shares my mouse and keyboard. (so far, all available for Windows, as well).
Play a tune on the laptop (or anything that produces audio), and thanks to Pulseaudio, it plays through the desktop system to my good speakers instead of the crappy laptop speakers (that are tucked away between stuff).
Print, and CUPS sends it to the same printer (as with scanning).
Now, I know I could do all this just using the monitor as a second monitor on the desktop, but if the main rig is eating CPU/GPU rendering, having the laptop for lightweight entertainment not being consumed by power hungry applications is a massive bonus.
And why am I posting this today? Because I just got the audio crossover working, so feeling kinda proud of myself. ?
Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.

December 28, 2017 at 3:50 am #14834Are you, by any chance, using a Creative audio card? I eventually pulled mine and stuck with the on board audio. Since then, no problems with all six channels (front L, C & R, Right L & R + Sub).
