Is there a hdmi input box that will take two monitors in and can hook up to a pc with one hdmi or display port out? But have both monitors show up as two separate displays in windows, as If they was both physically plugged straight into the gpu.
Im rearranging one of our desks and the thought crossed my mind. Just playing with ideas at the moment.
The saving of a single wire out of 4 isn’t a great achievement, so in reality it’s probably a theoretical question more than anything.
The thought just peaked my intrest.
February 21, 2017 at 5:39 am #4217Instant reaction was surely not but looks like it can be done expensively from a display port

Forumite Points: 0Just to add to your peaked interest.
Looking at blacklions link I use one of these to go to the PC (HDMI-VGA converter) then HDMi-TV can’t see why this wouldn’t work.
Maybe not have both monitors show up as two separate displays in windows.
February 21, 2017 at 7:52 am #4219One of These coupled with Johns link might work.
Edit: my bad connectors aren’t compatible, well the wrong way round

One HDMI out equals One HDMI Display, splitting the display as John suggests appears to be one solution.
This won’t resolve the number of cables but could drive 2 displays separately.

February 21, 2017 at 8:10 am #4222I read your question twice and I’m still not certain what you are trying to do. That said, Displayport gives lots of options. link
February 21, 2017 at 8:16 am #4223Ed, it’s one lead out of the graphics card to power 2 monitors.
AFAIK displayport is the only way to do it as it allows you to daisy chain.
February 21, 2017 at 8:23 am #4224Are you trying to get two displays, with separate desktops, out of one port?? If so, I think the HDMI splitter ( or whatever ), will only give you mirrored desktops. If you need two separate desktops, you’ll need two cables. ( Edit ) – or as Dave says daisy-chain a Displayport.
February 21, 2017 at 11:23 am #4227No John. One machine with two monitors. At the moment and for 10 years I’ve have ran them the tradition way, but this just thinking outside the last night.
I am planning a new set up for the lads room. Even before I posted the above question I’d realised it was only going to be hypothetical. But it’s good something to play these thought experiments out. You never know what you’ll find.

Same here. I’ve got 1 (19″ TFT ) monitor just for Thunderbird and another ( 24″ LED ) for browser etc. That evolved from needing to answer business e-mails promptly. :good:
