I thought I updated this thread earlier. I settled in an tablet based epos solution. And ordered a 16gb WiFi (4g) ipad air 2 earlier. 16gb will be enough ad it will be a till only. And a back up for the cctv. So two apps only

I’m gonna buy a second when I have some actual cash for the cctv, and it can act as a backup for the till.

I was gonna get a mini for the cctv. But the bigger air is a better choice be ouse of its back up function. If the one in thd till goes down, a simple swap and login to the till app sorts it out.

I do prefer the mini size for normal tablet use. The 10″ I find unwieldy. But the till box mount comes with a 10″ mount. Also give better real estat for my product icons.

Bought it about 3pm, and just got an email from royal mail saying it will be here before noon tomorrow. The rest of the system the day after (not from ebay) .

Ill spend the rest of the week nights programing it. Though I can do it on my android phone, so I’ll probably do it in that, then open the app in the ipad. And hope it all syncs. It should.

The ipad air 2 arrived today. It works great as a till, but OMG ios is crap. Glad it’s set and forget, as when setting it up I just wanted to huck it though the window.

The hardware is nice, but not a nice thing to use as a tablet. I won’t be rushing out to get a Peronal one. And glad android had an app, so I can do all till based set up and tweeks on android.

Once ios was sold as the simple solution, I find it far from it now. I must of entered my new apple Id 20 times. Which wouldn’t of beeb so bad if I didn’t use a secure password. So long and funky. That back fired!

I’m not sure when The air 2 is from (to lazy to look it up) but Thr touch Id is way slower than my p20pro, yes that’s newer, but I never notice the difference between my nexus 6p, pixel (first gen) or trh P20p.and I go back and too often. Touch Id I notice The lag.

It won’t matter on ay to day basis as a till, as its turned off, and set to never sleep. But using it as a tablet, I didn’t like. Though I never liked tablets, and god I’ve tried to.

So over all it does Teh job I want form it. Though I don’t like it as a computing device. And I much prefer the huawei tablet I got my girl last year (or more) ago. It was two Xmas ago.

Steve, I thought you had LastPass!! They now autofill when used on iOS12. See HERE.

I know, but given this is public machine, it’s not having anthing senstive in it. And my last pass account is my keys to the my kingdom.

Also i dont think it would of mattered as the i had to put the password in 5 times (at least) just to get the the stage where I was in the app store. Then again the first time I used the app store, then touch ID started working. So going forward, my monkey print is all what’s needed for the app store and purchases.

One thing I do like alot about ios keyboard, that I’ve not come across before is the way you can swipe down to access secondary key functions quickly. I think that must be an apple patent thing. As I ain’t seen it before. I rather like it.

Of course, – I keep relating your use of it to my personal one instead of open access. 🙁

interesting that Duke – I’ve got the Air 2 and like it. Its the first i-thing I’ve had. found the os restrictive at first (e.g. downloading youtube for travel etc) but workarounds for all of it. Battery life on mine is excellent. this is a work device – I would stillgo android with my own money (think I have the same huawei as you) – but I can’t fault the Air 2 for much.

It’s a nice bit of hardware, we had the ipad 2 which I never liked personally, but the hardware I couldn’t fault. It actually still works, just my draught last year locked us out of it, and cos I set up the apple ID about 6 years prior and never used it (it was my girls youtube machine), I could remeber the passwords, or even the email addy I used to set it up. Apple was no help, so it’s sat in a draw dorment.

The battery on that was amazing. At 6 years old it wousl still get 5h. Though I think they ove built the 2, as ive heard this is normal for that gen to just keep going, the 3 was a disaster for them, (lasted about 5 months before they re realised the next one), then the. Next was built to not quite match the styling power of the 2nd gen. As they need ipeople to keep buying an ipad evvey two or 3 years.

3 years is a good number for a tablet, for you not to be annoyed that it’s died, but also excited for the next one, as you’ll notice the jump in spec. So win win. Can’t have the tablet last 6 plus years, they need to turn a profit after all.

I was just stuck on the phone on hold etc.. For around 2 hours, and the ipad 2 air is a nice machine for Web browsing, and TV stuff, I must admit. Battery seems good too. Tho mine will be plugged in 24/7.

It’s ios I don’t like. I’m just being a moaner cos, well.. Cos I know android inside out, and ios I don’t. I’m sure an apple person fells the same going in the opposite direction.

iPad turned up today. Started settling it up 45 minutes ago. Took 5 of that to get an Apple ID password it would let me use! In the end the one it liked was IMO less secure than the first one.

The screen is nice but the huawei T5 is much better. Ok the iPad is 5 years older but they cost me the same. The battery has only gone down 4% and I’m getting used to the keyboard, slowly. Keep hitting return instead of backspace.

Steve, Manything Pro works just fine. You can install it and go to the demo. They are real cameras set up in their offices. Poke a camera to go to its live feed and clips.

I can see why people would have paid the premium when this was new, only an expensive Samsung would have compared. But now £100+ android tablets will be just as good. I hate the lack of expansion options.

Time to go delving into the works…

I’ll check that out Dave cheers. I do like the apple keyboard. The way you can swip down to use the second function selector. Probably my fav thing tbh.
