I get the Humax Newsletter, these are the latest offers, if anyone is interested:

I'm out.August 20, 2018 at 9:22 pm #24927Cheers Bob, my Sky contract comes to an end in a couple of months and they’ve already bribed me with a reduction but I think it’s time to go.
I have a single channel HB-1100S in the kitchen that will record to the USB drive that’s attached to it, but I’ve yet to bother with catch up being so good. The £129 HDR-1100S 500GB should replace the Sky box very nicely.
August 20, 2018 at 10:16 pm #24929The only downer of FreeSat is the lack of HD channels – I only get BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, CH5, BBC4 ad S$C. I watch a lot of CH4 and CH4+1, 4Seven – all on Freeviewbut not on FreeSat. Not the box’s fault but a shame.
August 21, 2018 at 4:41 pm #24968Steve, there is some dross on Freesat, but the Humax setup lets you delete any channels you don’t want. Example: it gives you as many local TV and radio stations near you that your signal can take, which leads to a lot of duplicated information. I just kept East Yorks & Lincs, with radio Nottingham (following footy news) and BBC East Midlands News, which serves my old home area. You might need to fit another LNB to your dish: I had to do that, wish now I had fitted a Quad connection, to get another outlet in this desktop room. Could then have, say, a 24″ Freesat TV as well as Freeview on the PC. Quad LNB:
Hope your Antenna Man is OK with that!
BL & Steve: here is the latest Freesat channel list:
Click the blue “Show more channels” box and scroll down for all the OD services. There are also 2x PDF’s lower down, one for a channel list and one for regional channels.
I was chuffed when Quest went HD, watch that a lot. Quest is also putting on a sort of League football “MoTD” and showing highlights of Championship, Leagues 1 and 2, at 9. HD channels will grow on Freesat, I believe. If your TV upscales to HD, as mine does, the problem goes away. Different for higher res like 4K I suppose, but my old peepers are happy with HD.
On another thread I will start soon, I will lay out what I will do with my TV/audio setup.
BL, Ch4 taking HD out of Freesat was Ch4 asking for a higher price and Freesat would not play tha game. The sale of boxes and ads is what pays for some or all of Freesat, which was originally set up by BBC and ITV, but has many more channels supporting it now. Ch4 services are funded by the taxpayer, with ads of course thrown into the mix. TBH, I dislike Ch4 and ITV, for the amount of spin off channels, most of which are utter doss, and dross repeated on each successive channel on the same day, sometimes at the same time. There are channels emerging which will blow Ch4 away IMO.
