After a generous forumite sold me an almost unused Hudl,* I have finally got around to setting it up and decided to compare it in action against my Lenovo Tab3.
The Hudl is quicker in several departments: its WiFi, used in the same places at the same time, has 150mbps, against 65 for the Lenovo, which drops off considerably as it moves away from the router. The Hudl drops off only gradually with distance. Loading BBC News simultaneously on both tablets, the Hudl loads almost immediately. The Lenovo takes longer, takes ages to load images and videos. Hudl sound and video is superior, although the Lenovo screen is slightly better: Hudl screen is a slightly darker white, creamy shade. Hudl e-book reading is better: text appears clearer, strange considering that the Lenovo screen is slightly brighter. Both Tablets are Android, Hudl is 5.1 and Lenovo 6.0. Both have bloatware, but the Hudl has less and it’s mostly invisible, the Lenovo has more, and more ads. The last Hudl I bought new was an Amazon Black Friday deal at £99.99. The Lenovo is now exactly the same, but I paid £10 more when I bought it.
I prefer the Hudl, on balance, although I did have a session of “Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped” which was cured by uninstalling Play Services, finding the right Play Services download for 5.1 and clearing the cache in apps. Next step is to get an SD card for the Hudl: they can take up to 64GB, although I should not need that much, a 32GB should be fine.
*Cheers! It’s going great!
