My browser is set to first try to make an https connection. Attempts to do this on Forumite are met with an error message:
“An error occurred during a connection to forumite.co.uk. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.”You can get more info on the failure here:

December 17, 2016 at 4:01 pm #1245Does that cost £ to get a secure cert? If so maybe a small donation button could added to the home screen to help out with any costs. After all Servers anrt free and time certainly isn’t.
December 17, 2016 at 4:29 pm #1296There not much for a site like this. I wont deny the costs of the site are stacking up and will have to try and cover them costs going forward. I’ll come up with a few ideas but what I can say is if you are only visiting the forum you will not know what the ideas are and should not be annoyed by anything.
At the moment I am past caring about money :yahoo: I’ll be lucky to be able to afford my christmas dinner this year for many reasons and I aint exagerating :negative: but there are things I would like to add to the site that cost so if I can do things to bring a few quid in for the site to improve it I will.

December 17, 2016 at 4:54 pm #1303Set up a PayPal donate button. When mm shuts down you should get a hand full of dedicated uses, if they all chuck in a pound or two a month in it will at least cover the basic costs and get you a bit or two. I’ll be your bailiff and bring it up monthly to nudge a quid out of folks pockets.
December 17, 2016 at 4:59 pm #1304lol, yea I could imagine you being a balif. I’ll just leave as is now and focus on getting the site rite.

Wow the font has changed automatically?

December 17, 2016 at 7:16 pm #1319I can sling a few £ a month if the other funding doesn’t work out. I’m sure others will as well.
December 18, 2016 at 7:56 am #1337I’d be happy to donate as well. I’d even allow Ads (provided they don’t slurp bandwidth). Some Ads have become so intrusive and slow that they have had to go on sites such as Gizmodo (35% of content and 11 of 16 superfluous domains – domain connection time is the killer).
Lee, talking of Ads – are you still doing wood-work? You showed some nice stuff on MM a year or two ago.
December 18, 2016 at 4:56 pm #1366I will add a donation button maybe later this evening. I do not think it would be a good idea to show who has donated or how much and it is by no means a must for any one to use the forum or activity area.
One of my plans is to add my own hosting services from my hosting website and hopefully I will get a few sign up’s by passing visitors. You will know when this is ready by the hosting button appearing in the site menu. I have to link and sync the sites to do that and it’s safe to say it’s not just a case of adding a buy now button. 🙁
I am working on some more ideas but as said, if your just visiting the forum you will not know they are there. One thing I do not want on this site is ads from outside services and so that is not going to happen anytime soon. :negative:
As for the woodwork, it’s been about 2 years since I did any. I have been to busy committing my time to building my business the best I can on a low budget. This is also why I have been quiet on MM. Not because I have fallen out with the place but spending so much time at the PC or Laptop gets on my wick and it is just good to sit down and chill with as much football I can get, be it Radio or TV.
No one on the forum knows “I Think” apart from @sgb101 that for the past 7 maybe 8 years I am more or less a full time carer for my grandparent and so getting my business out there is priority for me. Granted I get some carers allowance but it’s shite in the grand scheme of things. I don’t sign on and never have had apart from a brief week where I visited the Job Centre and was surrounded by “I’ll leave that to your imagination” but never again, it’s not for me. Getting a business loan or start up loan as been a no go for various reasons and not having work on for the past 2 months crimbo is going to be none existent. I’m not fussed though, I’ve got my Chewey to cheer me up @chewey “Yes my cat is a member” and I’ll be playing with this place, tweaking here and there.
The reason I am telling you all this now may give you some, let’s say clues to what I do when I am doing it here, such as adding hosting and any other new ideas I come up with. Obviously the more that visit the better al round.
The forum and the site are a solid platform but there are features I want to add over time and eventually some nice articles done by pro’s as budget allows and to try and fill in some holes that MM will leave.
All I can say for now is let’s just see how it goes. I’ll be putting up some sharing buttons so people can share the site with others etc…
I do keep adding new features you may not have noticed and I have quickly pulled them down due to speed and performance of the site. I have also found that the site slows down a lot when I am tweaking things so I have been doing it the past week through the night and then waiting for the complaints the next day 😉 but not that many so far. My main focus over next few days is cleaning up and making presentable.
On other note I would like to add is that this site needs updating at least once a week and I will schedule a time to do that, no doubt before anyone gets up in the morning.
I think that’s it for now. Enjoy! Oh, and any ideas you have just let me know and I’ll try and accommodate them.

December 19, 2016 at 8:19 pm #1411@edp You asked about my woodwork. I forgot that I built a beer garden table in the summer. It was a rush job, I wanted to quickly get out in the garden has the house was like an oven.
