I started my computer earlier on and noticed a new quick start icon on the task bar. It’s for Notepad++
So I scratch my head for a bit and decide to investigate. Maybe I installed it and forgot about it and then it somehow added itself to the quick start. But it doesn’t show up as installed in Control Panel/Programs and Features. There is no Notepad++ folder in Program Files or Program Files (x86) or ProgramData…
So I google if it’s something happening to other people. It’s not.
So I try searching. Turns out my computer doesn’t do searching. The only search I can find is Cortana and even if I search for files I know I have it just says “no results”…
So I google again but it’s like all Cortana related search instructions were written in Narnia… It’s nothing like what I have.
Any suggestions?

April 2, 2017 at 5:05 pm #5766Thx, will try it now. Never had to use the search since “upgrading” to win10 but have to say Cortana interface looks just awful. And it doesn’t seem to do anything useful.
April 2, 2017 at 5:25 pm #5769Fount the Notepad++ location. Agent Ransack looks like a nice little program. Notepad++ is one those programs that you run without installing. I must have added it quick start by mistake. I’ve been learning about a car diagnostic program and my /D: drive is full of all sorts of files and folders that I am experimenting with.

April 2, 2017 at 7:08 pm #5785Microsoft keeps telling us that contra is a complete replacement for the old search tool but in that role it is rubbish. Even when I enter the exact file name of a program I know exists it’s first thought is to direct me to a web page where I can down load it. Its next thought is to point me at a web page that tells me about it. If I tell contra to do a local search it stops thinking and tells me it cant find it ! It sometimes dose this even with microsoft programs like MSCONFIG.EXE
April 5, 2017 at 2:49 pm #5864I find the search box, top right hand corner of File Explorer better than cortina* or whatever it is called. That stupid MS thing could not find itself if it was caught in a beam of a searchlight.
Deliberate spelling
